Default Asking Price

Got this in an e-mail today, a poem, thought it was sorta cool.

Asking Price

Submitted by Jody Beasley

I asked an American soldier how much does freedom cost

“It’s not how many dollars, but how many lives are lost
No one understands what I face each day
Unless they have been here and seen the price I pay
It’s not the scars we carry, the purple hearts we earn
The warmth of home and family for which we all so yearn
I now sleep in a tent or on a bed of sand
Praying I’ll be touched each night by God’s loving hand
Each day I go to battle; I have a job to do
To protect and to serve the red, white and blue
I’ve missed a lot of birthdays, first steps and holiday cheer
I hold on to precious memories; in my heart them I endear
I don’t want your money; just let me know you care
As the weight of the world on my shoulders for you I bear
You can always count on me, sure as the rising sun
I will never leave you; my job will never be done
So when you see the protesters marching against this war
Ask them do they know what they’re marching for
I would gladly trade places with them; home I’d love to go
What I’m going through over here is something no one should know
Some will never understand; they’ll never know why I fight
It breaks my heart to see them March, knowing they think they’re right
If you ever go to Arlington please stop by and see
The crosses that remind us all freedom isn’t free
I have no regrets when it comes to my career of choice
For those who can’t defend themselves I will be their voice
I’m proud to be an American, proud to be a soldier too
And when I’m asked to fight for her there’s nothing I’d rather do
Please do not forget my pain or my sacrifice
This is all from you I want; this is my asking price”

Dedicated to every great American who knows the “Asking Price”
