Your call was probably from a company that recruits strike breakers (scabs) nationwide. Not only do they recruit linemen and electricians they also recruit other trades, iron workers, boilermakers, etc. Many times when a company is in tough negotiations with their union they contact this company to start recruiting scabs, in hopes that the word gets out and intimidates the union into settling the dispute or to settle for less. However, usually it has the opposite effect of just pissing the union guys off and unites them even further for their cause.

Scabs are the lowest form of life. When a group of workers unite into a union and stand up against the employer by withholding their labor, only to have their job taken away by a scab, very, very hard feelings are created.

Linemen scabs would be very unwelcome in the northeast. Someone probably would get hurt.

There are many jobs available for linemen across the United States that do not involve strike breaking. A real man would take one those jobs before becoming a scab.

JOHN L. LEWIS:
The labor movement is organized upon a principle that the strong shall help the weak. The strength of a strong man is a prideful thing, but the unfortunate thing in life is that strong men do not remain strong. And it is just as true of unions and labor organizations as is true of men and individuals. And whereas today the craft unions of this country may be able to stand upon their own feet and like mighty oaks stand before the gale, defy the lightning, yet the day may come when those organizations will not be able to withstand the lightning and the gale. Now, prepare yourselves by making a contribution to your less fortunate brethren... Organize the unorganized!

We might not really realize it most of the time, but with the shortage of true seasoned journeyman lineman, we are in fact driving the train now. Time to shut down the train boys!!!!!!!!!

Default Job Question

I saw the same advertisement. Having been on the both sides of the fence, I will tell you one thing, we do not need to Hurt someone for making a living, they have a family to take of just like we do. Their are some non-union companies that will not cross picket lines or do any work for a utility that is on strike. I know one thing I would do like Mr. Lewis said, I would give them all the info they needed to organize them and let them know the consequcies of what they are doing is not in their best interest as a lineman. By that I mean they are only hurting themselves when it comes time for them to get raises, health cost, 401's etc. because they are now being controlled by the employeer and the utility. I guess my bottom line is if they choose to break the lines they have sold their soles and made a deal with the devil himself ( Coorporate America) and they need to see the light as far as being union and united in solidarity.
