Thumbs up Employee Free Choice Act

A very important bill has already passed the U.S. House of Representatives and is headed to the U.S. Senate. The Employees Free Choice Act will give working Americans the choice to unionize without management interference. No more one on one anti-union lectures, captive audience meetings or other forms of harrassment that have become all to common in the United States. Alot is at stake namely the existence of middle class America. By the strength of their backs and the sweat of their brows unions formed middle class America. By doing so they enabled working men and women to raise their families with decency and respect, but now with privatization,de-regulation,globalization and de-unionization we are in danger of becoming the first generation in history to leave our children and grand-children worse off than what our parents and grand-parents left us. That thought alone should motivate all workers to take action by contacting their respective state senators and telling them the time has come to pass this legislation. It is time to end the corporate agenda that has hijacked our nations democratic traditions. CALL YOUR SENATORS ASAP.

Is this the legislation that takes away the right to a private vote? There was recent legislation that took away employees right to a secret ballot when voting on unions.

Default What is the Employee Free Choice Act ?

Duckhunter, The Act would do the following : 1. Establish stronger penalities for violation of employee rights when workers seek to form a union and during first-contract negotiations. 2. Provide mediation and arbitration for first-contract disputes. 3. Allow employees to form unions by signing cards authorizing union representation (card check). So yes the act would eliminate the need to vote, if 51% of the employees sign cards then it's off to the bargaining table. This part alone would level the playing field tremendously.

The Farmers and Ranchers of Canada and the US have contributed as much(or more) to the prosperity of NA as any other group and got less for it. It's cheap food that made middleclass America prosperous.

Thumbs up

Absolutely King Rat but the current system for forming unions and bargaining is broken. All to often employers deny workers the freedom to decide for themselves whether to form unions to bargain for a better life for themselves and their families. They routinely intimidate, harass, coerce, and even fire workers who try to organize and bargain for economic well-being. And those not fired fear losing their jobs. Some 60 million workers say they would join a union if they could. Do you think that would help solve the problem of over 50 million not having healthcare coverage?

Depends.
"Right to work" state? Or "Closed shop" state?

I like a personal choice. I don't like to be told..."closed shop". That tells ya right there.

"Closed minds".

Had the privilege of meeting and hearing a lecture by Marty Leavitt and it was truly enlightening. " Confessions of a Union Buster " is a must read for all working Americans.
