    Just wondering if a guy can go and join the IBEW? I'm a Union lineman been through an apprenticeship but my company's union is Operating engineers don't know why but it is!

    The answer to ur question is yes prior to a few things they would need to know and things u would need to do

    I would say they would want some references , may be even some records showing that u have had proper training and enough years of service to comply with their rules, u might possibly have to test out which is just pretty much common line work task depending on what ticket u wanted "a" or "ba" to get ur "a" u will have to take a test anyway

    Are you asking if just you can join or your whole shop?

    The entire shop would be complicated as they're already organized. That would mean a decert, then a year without representation then an NLRB election. I would not recommend that course of action and doubt the IBEW would get involved as it would be considered a raid on another union.

    If you want to work out of an IBEW LU with outside jurisdiction you can look into it at your nearest LU with line jurisdiction.
