    Talking Safety Programs

L.A. There needs to be an overall safety program that addresses each aspect of the company. Office, warehouse, garage, outside, substation, underground, metering, and what ever types of sections/divisions have at CVEC. Then break it down to specfic functions and duties of each division. There should be different safety reps on the safety committie for each division(section) as all duities are completly different. It is difficult to boiler plate a safety program as each utility and outside contractor are as different as day and night. What we have found in our company in the outside construction division is that our on site safety committie is made of crew members who report to the job safety rep who reports to the safety director. In other words we on the ground level get to address the issues and recommend sanctions before it goes top side
for final action. Nothing like being chastised by your peers instead of some company man you do not even know. We also get safety bounus points that we can redeeem for many items such as radio's CD players. IPODS etc. You have to incorporate some type of incentatives to get everyone interested in a ZERO accidents/Incidents state of mind. It works.
