packing.org was an awesome site that I was a member of for years, thousands of posts I had. Then the owner changed it to a self moderating site by the users, within maybe 6 months it came to an end.

The other line forum ran by cable dawgs is a perfect example of a moderated site, you spell a word wrong your post gets deleted. You go visit there and there are not posts, no interesting topics...then you see the moderators asking people to post because nobody is posting. If they are it's deleted.

I filter through most of the crap posted on here. Every forum has that.

Think about what ya'll are wanting. I've been on message boards since 1994 back before people even knew what the internet actually was instead of this click click shit. Some pervail, while others go right in the toilet.

I try to stay "on track" but sometimes it just kinda goes in another direction. But, that's conversation on a regular basis for me. So, that doesn't bother me. Even if it happens in threads I start, I just think of it as conversations.

I just like to ask questions or want to know what others think or their opinions. The difference with some of us, is it stops there. Meaning we want other's opinions, take it in stride, and move on. If you ask for an opinion, it's very possible it's not going to be like yours.

And I have a question for the few 4 that wanted more moderation:

What kind of moderation are you wanting to see?
What is the limit of moderation?
Are you wanting posts removed in threads?

If it's locked threads, this whole forum would be locked threads. I've seen moderation done over nothing. I've seen the "power" of moderation go completely nuts over a "small" disagreement. And all because they didn't like one person's opinion so they attacked them.

I will say this, you do have a female moderator on an all male site. Which is pretty uncommon. I guess what I want to know is what the 4 wanted in moderation. Just curious really. If you would rather PM me your opinions, I'll take it to Byron.
LA, I hope you know I was teasing you about hijacking! So what's wrong with modest moderation? Reading every post and correct the spelling or helping the poster find what they are looking for. I would like to see when someone goes way off topic in a rant that those posts are removed and either deleted or replaced in this section. Then maybe when you get tired of removing posts with that member, you might send them a PM reprimanding them. Also in this section the one member keeps posting duplicate threads, it would be nice if that was stopped. I could see to moderate this forum lightly would take 8 to 10 hours a day by the time you read every new post and check the new member registrations to make sure they are not spammers. Who cares what is said or goes on in the BS section let it run away with ranting but the rest of the forum is worth you working on. Thank you, Drifter

Oh, I didn't take you teasing me personally Drifter. Not at all.

I do occassionally find myself interested in some topics away from the BS forum. Not as often as I did when I first came here, but there are times I do read other forums and just not comment. I've said before that I don't go to the Safety forum and I mentioned why. I know what you are thinking, you are probably all wondering why I don't moderate or read all of them.

Truthfully, I think of myself as one of the regular posters here. I also tend to forget that I have the label of moderator until someone asks me to fix something---like a spammer or having problems with posting. I have tried to go in and try and calm things down some, but more often, it's just best to let the thread die. Let everyone type it out of their system.

Also when thinking I'm just a regular poster here, I try to be considerate of others and respectful. I hear you all groaning. Well, if I'm in YOUR house, I'm gonna be respectful of you, your family, and your property. It's called courtesy. And if we should get in a debate or differences of opinion, I'm either going to leave or accept our differences of opinions. It's not rocket science guys.

There is also an ignore button. I've mentioned this before. And I'm not going to edit member's posts on grammar or spelling. I'm not all that great with it myself.

I tend to agree with rcdallas. I think you all need to make sure of what you are asking. If it ever changes, or if you guys talk Byron into having a full time moderator here, I will step down and have someone else do the "moderating" because, I'm not here to cause friction. It just ain't me. Give me a task of looking for an avatar, searching for smilies, helping you by searching something, or getting rid of that spammer, but I'm not here to censor, correct, or crack the whip when you all know you can do that yourself. It starts with you.

I'll let Byron know if the poll changes. Right now, most of you like it the way it is.

    It's "all good".
Byron ain't gonna change this board because of a couple of whiney union boys.
He's just gonna let "linemen be"....what, and the way they are.

The "few" union boys here, and the one "foreigner" canadian frog...that want to "ban" people...are just showin exactly their union thinking about anyone that dissagrees with em. BAN EM!!!

    Fortunately...Byron sees that.

    Let it all just...."Type out".

Sorta like a Linecrew works. It eventually...just works out. The "Dislike" continues....but, I'll still climb and work with ya.
Nice twist O'Notreally! Another pathetic post from a wanna be Line man!

    Like I said....

"They just got a hate, for anything, or anybody that don't suck up to the union troth."

    And...that's the truth.

"wannabe, Retired, Journeyman Lineman" 40 years.

You only got another 20 odd years to go boy.
Uh you're not countin the 14 years outta 15 in Saudi you were a "Stupervisor" are you?? 40-14=26-the fact you know nothin of electrical theory=ZIP, ZILCH, NOTTA!!

I've already surpassed you in "Distribution" work and now it looks like I finally will get the chance for some Tranny work!! Oh Yeah, looks like we're gettin ours back? Course it's only 46k and maybe a little 138k? It's a start though and more than you got in you're fictional "40 years!"

All your union "training" stuff and all, definately makes you a better Lineman than I was. But ya know what?

Wasn't really tryin to say I'm better than you Swamp! Just was a "rebuttal" to an age old phrase you "Ole Timers" always try in drop on us "Youngins!" I don't wanna get into a b!tch session with ya man! I'll save it for squeelb!tch! I hope to some day call it quits and have a lot to be proud of too! good for you!

Ya kinda are off on the print and spec thing? There's a reason our field devices have a red line option! Basically NO one can right up the perfect job or spec for every situation and we do catch a lot of mistakes and we get to change'em or work with the engineers to fix the problem! Especially when the circuit maps are 20 years behind!

Anyways Troubleshootin is a HUGE learnin tool in this trade! I don't think anyone (except you know who who never did "distribution!) in their right mind would disagree but being a "company" hand verses a "contractor" is almost apples to oranges? They both got similarities like being round and fruit but they also got differences like tastin different and of course color! A lot of times we find a problem troubleshootin and we're asked what we need to have done to correct it. Most of the times that's load issues or fusing.

So I obviously would agree with people who say you need a taste of both contractor and company but I'm ready to go back contractin! Too much politics and I miss certain freedoms but with the son I can't leave cause of certain benefits! He's doin as good as he can? Still waittin on the test results from the NIH and I'll update my thread about it when we find out anything! Just keepin him happy is our goal!

Oh yeah now that I've already "hijacked" my own thread, I haven't seen the whole movie yet! I'm supposed to be leavin in the mornin for two weeks of bow huntin and my damn truck broke the other day and after 2 days of tryin to fix it I had to finally give in and take it in! Yep! I'm no mechanic! They got her goin again!
