There was still on or two of those hanging in the back lots in Midland.

Off of Sugnet and Ashman area... damned if I recall the exact street.

I asked about those... and no one believed that was what it was.

FPL did a pilot with those in the 70's... never caught on... there were a couple still left in the Boca Raton area when I moved in 95

    Default Drys.

Had an old "I've always worked for PSO foremans" show me one once. Thought he was gonna snow me. Course I'd seen a few before. Sorta disappointed him.

Don't know why those never caught on. Pretty light and easy to handle. Probably the co's that make transformer oil got a bribe with some big wig. Probably the Saudi's won't allow it.

So these are from the seventies, there wasn't many used, and the ones we know of are still workin? Why didn't they catch on? Think you're on to somethin there Door!

Not to mention this little beauty has about 8 houses on it and just as many spans of secondary! Seem to work fine to me!

We have a few left on our system they date from late 60's when power at wholesale was cheap. The transformers have about three times the losses of an equivalent size oil filled. P.S. we call them martian transformers.

The Rumor at FPL was they didnt tolerate transients (read-lightning and switching surges) as well as oil filled transformers.

I wish I could remember the brand name of the dry transformers we used to put in the high rise condo's and office buildings. IF my feeble mind can come up with a picture I'll put it up. Only place I ever saw them... never seen one since...

    Yes Sir it was!!

I seen several of them being used on FE property. I guess they just don't have any oil, eh? I'd imagine it might be just a bit lighter.
