Years ago when I was a young Jy.I was working on a two man truck, trouble mostly and if I remember right it was on a saturday.Around 2 or 3 pm,it had just rained and we went from call to call. This call was a linefuse that was fed by step-downs 34.5/12470.Anyway we had a pickup and the step-downs were pretty high and with my luck the fuses were even higher. So this had to be climbed in order to reach the switches even with a stick.About that time, the wind picked up and I looked to the west.Well,I saw something that I had never seen before,it looked like a wall of dust coming our way and coming fast.Well I must have hurried up and closed the fuses in,but I remember telling the other lineman that there would be tornadoes somewhere......Na he tells me.....Now we stayed busy throughout the day and night and around 10pm wre sent to the east side of town.Hours later on that side of town we saw many 18 wheelers turned over like little toys, lots of damage elsewhere.Working overnight on that cold day we were finally sent to this subdivision that really wasnt a subdivision anymore.Ive never seen such a mess, even hurricanes couldnt match what I saw.Days after I wondered why we were building lines when there really wasnt many homes left.It happened to be a main circuit that ran through the neighborhood. One day while working I was in a bucket and decided to elevate it as high as it would go.Wow,what a mess. You could actually see the path of the tornado, and in some spots it had to be close to a mile wide.Enough of the story, but I did find a clip on youtube.....all I can say is that the vid doesnt give justice to what I saw on the ground that day.Anyone who's worked after a large tornado knows that.......So M.Poot if your reading this, its actually a warning to what might happen tommorow, same situation, just 22 years later.Anyway heres a sample of what happened in the Sterling Green subdivision that I was sent to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxFf4itH5d8
This once was a monster storm, headed towards my area, but it turned more to the east and visited Poots neck of the woods. At one time it reached 175 mph.Im sure he remembers it well, been awhile now but seems like yesterday....well almost. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsb34tSrha4
