I've never pulled wire without a traveling ground, but it's been rare for us to ever pull wire in the wide open where there was little chance for induced voltage.

Only time we don't is building a new line in virgin territory, no crossings and no parrallels. Even then some of the guys use them just because that's thier normal procedure.

We also call it a travelling ground and should always be part of proper tension stringing near energized conductors.

  8. Default We call them

Running earths, never used them on clean rebuilds, usually on tower stinging when one side is live,or earth wire with one or both sides live

We don't always use a running ground but when stringing near or over live we always ground the wire, often by the tail coming out of the reel.

The live line is running parallel in a lot of places... Gets a bit tingly at times.
