Good show. I don't know how they'll make it without you Cliffie. Bet the lights are gonna start flickering down there in SE Texas. Might be lumpy coal though.
Old lineman told me once he retired and one day seeing the crew stopped and said. How's it going since I retired boys? One replied. Hell, the lights ain't even flickered.

So you did it again. How long do you think this will last? Man you get bored.
Believe it or not after 15 months of my second retire. Friday I purchased a Large boom truck or small mobile Crane. I couldn't stand it any more. I only have one competitor in the area and that is a large multi-state crane company. I am now building spreader bars and rounding up lifting equipment to start a small heavy lift business..
Well thats just me I got bored in the other things I tried and I can always retire again. Got the Crane through GSA cheap and can always sell out to Taylor.
So good luck the second time around. Stay out of bars.:rolleyes:congradulations Poot:) Ten more years and I'll be there too! Hey Steve... have you thought of a name for your crane company? How bout ......... "Massive Erection".

Hey Poot, congrats on retirement and hope it's a good one. I got out this June 1st and have been busy ever since. Now I can tackle the jobs around here I put off due to tired or lack of time. Each day I find something constructive to accomplish for the good of my family and self. I play some too. . .don't leave that out.

Well its been a hole week n I kinda miss havin a prollem to solve everday. I'm one of those guys that cant take a trip with the family without lookin at the different types of construction while everbody else is enjoying the countryside. No doubt I am gonna miss it but Its time and after a 40 yr run I cant imagine anything more rewarding , more demanding, or less appreciated. I spect its gonna take sum time fer me to kick the habit.( if thats even possible)

Well Poot, I don't know what all exactly you did for 40 years...I caught bits and pieces that you retired from Entergy then went onto I think outside construction as a foreman.
My first real lineman I worked with at the coop had spent 23 years with Texas Power and Light on a traveling construction crew then took a early retirement. He diddled with some other things for several years then got bored and took a service wagon with the coop for about another 12 years. During his last year there he spent time training me on the service area, I was going to be his replacement. Took the ball and ran with it, he knew I wanted more and eventually gave me advice to move on to somewhere else. He finally retired one week after I left. Still talk to him this day.
I've once heard something that made some sense. You spend your entire career building and re-building line, I first thought you made things better in which you did, however then it became clear to me that it's going to need to rebuilt and added to later on. You've probably rebuilt some of the line you first built when you started.
Point being you spent your 40 years learning the trade and in them time you worked all off hooks to all the hydraulic-computer saavy techie crap. I know you trained many people that'll take and have took what you had taught them to pass onto the next generation.
Good job.
LOOKIE THERE...THE HOLE IS THERE, NOW GET YOUR **** SHOVEL AND GET THE DIRT OUTTA IT, I'M DONE!!!

I'm 5 years into retirement. I look at it as getting even for all the crap I had to take over the years.
Getting used to living with a woman instead of working elbow to elbow with a gang of linemen is a challenge and takes some getting used to.
If your like me you won't be able to throw your mind into neutral and just kick back.
That's probably a good thing though. Don't want the brain to turn to mush too soon. It will someday anyway.
Actually it's a huge waste to let all of your experiences stay bottled up in your head. If your really get a hankering for keeping a finger in the pie. Try teaching new apprentices with a local utility or an existing instructional firm.
Something like Reed Thorne's Ropesthatrescue, in Sedona, AZ.
Just stick to your expertise.
Could be lots of fun and rewarding. Lord knows the newbies need guidance.
Congrats.
