I was practicing my climbing this morning and guess what I saw?
A pair of young bucks came out of the brush while I was 4' off the ground with my back to the pole. I stayed still and they both walked up to me until they got about 20' away from me. At that point the lead buck in the velvet decided that he had enough of a look of the strange thing hanging off of the pole and turned around. They both circled around me cautiously and went their way...

That brings to mind a deer story...............12 years or so when I was still reading meters I had a customer, an independent farmer(beef cows) and every month his dogs would see my white truck coming from the top of the hill and a couple of them would run up the road to greet me and wait for thier usual treat from me....dog biscuits(never was without them, nice dogs only).....I got very used to it and looked forward to seeing them every month........one month as usual up the road the doggers came, and when I finally reached the farm I was amused to see a fawn in the yard, she didnt run, but was a little timid, I talked to her and played with the dogs a while and was on my way.....a couple of months went by, she was still always at the farm, I always talked to her and tried to get close...Finally bout the 3rd or 4th month I was up the road and here come the dogs for their biscuit, along with the fawn, she came over to the truck and I gave her a biscuit too, she munched it down and came back for another........needless to say this went on for months, she would come to my truck, put her front legs in and nuzzle me till I gave her the biscuit, it was the custest thing I ever saw. One day the farmer told me her mother had been killed and they rescued her and bottle fed her and she just stayed, they named her Petunia, cause she loved to eat petunias.......As she grew she would stray a bit, but still came back to the farm often, they put a red collar on her, hoping to keep the hunters from killin her, she was like one of their dogs, but......some idiot came up hunting season and killed her, and left her in the field. I will never forget her, that is something you dont get to experience too often.
