View Full Version : Women Who Know Their Place

Barbara Walters, of 20/20, did a story on gender roles in Kabul, Afghanistan,
several years before the Afghan conflict.
She noted that women customarily walked five paces behind their husbands.
She recently returned to Kabul and observed that women still walk behind their husbands.
Despite the overthrow of the oppressive Taliban regime, the women now seem to,
and are happy to, maintain the old custom.
Ms. Walters approached one of the Afghani women and asked,
'Why do you now seem happy with an old custom that you once tried so desperately to change?'
The woman looked Ms. Walters straight in the eyes, and without hesitation said, 'Land Mines'.
Moral of the story:
No matter what language you speak or where you go,
BEHIND EVERY MAN THERE'S A SMART WOMAN!

Sorry I've not been around. I've had the flu. Guess it was the flu. I've not been sick like this.....I don't even remember. I felt worse then after my surgery with this stuff. Still not up to par.
Anyway.....about this topic. It's an on going topic around our house, but for some reason, it never gets solved. Yep, going on 30 yrs, and it's never been closed. I have no idea which one of us expects to win(or is winning), but we sure keep trying. :D

nope, only makin light of an article from the past..............believe it or not my mom could have been a role model for that article. It is interesting to see how thoughts and perceptions have changed over the years.
I wonder where the "Good Husband's Guide" article is? :D
Prolly in the bible...
but I just give my wife what I DEMAND....respect....she raised my boys I was never there.... to busy doing linework...
yeah it's a shame I brought on my self...
but my boys have become MEN because of it....
they respect women....
and do not treat them like trash like so many of todaydays BOYS do....

And HUMOR. Don't forget humor! :D
I'm told almost everyday I'm not what a wife is suppose to be. It's said with a grin and sometimes with a hug. I told him once, "You want a woman from the 40's and 50's? Let's make it happen!"
First thing on the agenda was me quiting my job and staying at home.
Oh well! I did try! :D
well they 40's might me an upgrade ... but I was thinking 20's... and maybe a redhead?
oh wait you ment something else sorry...

yes, I agree that humor is super important too. Rates right up there with respect.....................I would have to add for the good husband's guide, being wealthy(and sharing), great at mowing the lawn, professional trash taker outer, likes to dine out a lot or is a professional chef or at least a good short order cook, is not adverse to laundry, washing windows, vacuuming, or dusting, oh and a great all around handyman. Tall dark and handsome....
Well maybe my sense of humor is just a little warped:D;)

Gals I didn’t write that article I just posted it. It’s been fun hearing you quacking about that, http://www.smileyshut.com/smileys/new/Animals/duck-06.gif http://www.smileyshut.com/smileys/new/Animals/duck-05.gif I do not believe that certain duties are a man’s or a women’s! Here is some thing for you gals to think about…
HAND BAGS
Have you ever noticed girls who set their handbags on public toilet floors, then go directly to their dining tables and set it on the table?
Happens a lot ! It's not always the 'restaurant food' that causes stomach distress...'what you don't know will hurt you'!
Mom got so upset when guests came in the door and plopped their handbags down on the counter where she was cooking or setting up food. She always said that handbags are really dirty, because of where they have been.
It's something just about every woman carries with them. While we may know what's inside our handbags, do you have any idea what's on the outside? Women carry handbags everywhere; from the office to public toilets to the floor of the car. Most women won't be caught without their handbags, but did you ever stop to think about where your handbag goes during the day.'I drive a school bus, so my handbag has been on the floor of the bus a lot,' says one
woman. 'On! The floor of my car, and in toilets.
''I put my handbag in grocery shopping carts and on the floor of the toilet,' says another woman 'and of course in my home which should be clean.'
We decided to find out if handbags harbour a lot of bacteria.
We learned how to test them at Nelson Laboratories in Salt Lake ,
and then we set out to test the average woman's handbag.
Most women told us they didn't stop to think about what was on the bottom of their handbag. Most said at home they usually set their handbags on top of kitchen tables and counters where food is prepared. Most of the ladies we talked to told us they wouldn't be surprised if their handbags were at least a little bit dirty
It turns out handbags are so surprisingly dirty, even the microbiologist who tested them was shocked.
Microbiologist Amy Karen of Nelson Labs says nearly all of the handbags tested were not only high in bacteria, but high in harmful kinds of bacteria.
Pseudomonas can cause eye infections - staphylococcus aurous can cause serious skin infections and salmonella and e-coli found on the handbags could make people very sick
In one sampling, four of five handbags tested positive for salmonella, and that's not the worst of it. 'There is faecal contamination on the handbags' says Amy. Leather or vinyl handbags tended to be cleaner than cloth handbags, and lifestyle seemed to play a role. People with kids tended to have dirtier handbags than those without, with one exception. The handbag of one single woman who frequented nightclubs had one of the worst contaminations of all. 'Some type of faeces, & possibly vomit' says Amy.
So the moral of this story is that your handbag won't kill you, but it does have the potential to make you very sick if you keep it on places where you eat. Use hooks to hang your handbag at home and in toilets, and don't put it on your desk, a restaurant table, or on your kitchen countertop.
Experts say you should think of your handbag the same way you would a pair of shoes. 'If you think about putting a pair of shoes on your countertops, that's the same thing you're doing when you put your handbag on the countertops.'Your handbag has gone where individuals before you have walked, sat, sneezed, coughed, spat, urinated, emptied bowels, etc!Do you really want to bring that home with you?
The microbiologists a t Nelson also said cleaning a handbag will help. Wash cloth handbags and use leather cleaner to clean the bottom of leather handbags

Whew....the article you just posted made me feel a lot better, I thought maybe I was germa phobic.........I always hang my purse on the coat hook in the ladies room, and try to always buy a cloth one that I can just throw in the washer, course leather is fine too cause you can clean them too.
If I had a few more pockets in my pants, I wouldnt even carry one.....they are a supreme pain in the a$$$$$$, but I havent found any pants with pockets big enough to put the "kitchen sink" in yet;):):D

No not at all...
I have a good wife that loves and respects her husband... she know her place....
behind me....
and before you think thats sexist she adheres to the same principles as I do....
I'll follow until it's time to lead...
this is what it all comes down to... there comes a time in every relationship... man and wife... boyfriend girl friend...
Lineman and apprentice... when you just gotta trust..
Trust however has to be earned... if if ya ain't got trust... you aint got ****...
Even though here at dominion we have pages and pages of switching orders and clearance tickets ... enuff hold cards to fill a dumptruck... it all comes down to trusting your polebuddy... your life is in his hands...
my heart is in my wife's hands...
in the end YOU determine which is greater...

Edge,
You do whatever is good for you. I will continue to do what is good in my relationship too. I happen to believe that somethings women are better at and somethings men are better at naturally. And I am sure most of that is interest and learned. I don't think that makes one better then the other it just is. But I gotta say the "follow behind me" stuff would haffta go. I don't roll like that but if it works for you..........Who am I to judge.

Actually, if you want to get Biblical, a woman is to know her place.
WHAT???? WHO???? WHY????? I can just hear it now! Heh.
Tell ya another LostArt story.........(and why I believe that ONE needs to lead----and another follow---especially in a family)
Several years ago, back when my children were pre teen age, their father was teasing about how he is being run shoded. Like the kids and I were over running his importance. I said, "Uh....do what????" I then called our kids into the room and said, "Okay kids. This is an important question. Who is the head of this household?" And with no pauses they said, "Daddy is." I looked over and he said with a grin, "No way! You put the kids up to this!" And our children---first the girl, "No she didn't daddy." And the other one---the boy, "Aren't you? I figured you was." LOL!
Did this bother me? Why no! Someone needed to be the "man in charge" and I've never had a problem with it. He is the Boss. He is my partner. He is my husband and friend. We can go head to head sometimes, but I figure that's like most relationships. The keyword is having one...............a relationship. :D

Ok, you are trying to preach to the chior mister! I grew up in a very conservative religion and went to christian school headed up by that same religion. I know the dealio and the way it rolls down. I am just saying that it wouldn't work in my relationship. I find 50/50 ground there no matter what anyone says. So if your wife is ok with you preaching your manly dominance ,mo power! If I heard my husband talk that crap, he would hear about it. I don't need to stress my point any further. I know you obviously think you are right and if that floats your boat, then good. I find it highly disrespectful even though I believe you think it isn't.
I raise my kids mostly by myself because due to circumstances that I am sure you have known through your life , my husband has to travel to make a living. So when I do see him I tell him what is up. I tell him about the finances , about the kids , the pets, the other household stuff. We really try very hard to work as a team and sure sometimes one of us has to take a stand, but I gotta tell ya unless it is super bad it usually isn't him. I think you were the one talking about how your wife pretty much raised your kids by herself so you know what I mean I hope. I also have several women friends with their husband deployed right now that take their stand as well. We mostly make the decisions all by ourselves. I don't need a man to follow behind. I grew up and don't need a daddy.
Wow that was my rant.!!
that was Mrs. Art you responed too... not me... and I guess you really din't get my post even though you read it... maybe the lingo is just a little old for ya...
I'll follw untill it's time to lead... literally means 50/50 hun... calm down...
but then again you might not be diggin my lingo cuz you ain't read past post of mine enuff to pick up what I'm puttin down....
I think LA gets it.... but then again were in a similar age bracket and that alone might be it...
hey relax stick your toes in the sand... put a brew in your hand... and welcome to the boards...
