I would love some feed back on Henkels and McCoy from anyone working for them or has worked for them. They just bought out Pacific Electrical Installations. All employees where informed that as of July 1 H&M has aquired 100% of PEI here in British Columbia. All the H&M people that have been up to see us seem realy good and have big ideas. We don't know if the Bentley family is staying on or what, either way we expect some big changes comming. You got Quanta and now Henkels and McCoy here in Canada now..just don't know alot about them, probably good for the industry to have another big player other than just Quanta. Maybe I'm wrong.

I did alot of High line work with HinkMc they were always a decent outfit for me paid ya how you wanted paid check or cash on payday... if you needed extra equipment you got it... if you needed more hands... they called the hall that was some time ago and I can only hope it's still the same way...

I guess they are as good as any out there. I hear Quanta is real pissed, apparently they had a deal to sell to them and then H&M came in and pulled a fast one. There is years of transmission work here in beautiful British Columbia, I think these big US companies see a good future here.Lots of new equipment rolling in already. Pacific was the best contractor out there, hope the new owners don't f*****! it all up.

H&M is as good as any of them... It depends more on who the local GM is. Least that was my experience with them. I worked for them for 10 years... They had decent equipment and plenty of it. Any foremen I worked for was stand up..

Topgroove... I find that hard to believe... I saw them up here on Grid property for months... they were around longer than most of them.

yeah... there pet name is "Krinkle and Destroy".... kinda like "National Greed"

saw it with my own eyes and havent seen Krinkle and destroy here in the west since. It was the icestorm 1998 we were holed up for the night at canton university. some guys were playing cards and a fight broke out. one of the H&M guys pulled a knife and the cops were called. The cops found a loaded hand gun in one of the H&M guys gear. Every one of the H&M hands were loaded up in a bus and taken away. I don't know about the central and east or New England but here in the west there done. we contract out through 1249 now

They worked on our property and had junk equipment, hands that worked like crap and unsafe. We couldn't wait to get back to hooper. I would say no way. This company from what I saw has problems. Now they may be able to do it cheaper but as the saying goes you get what you pay for.

I can believe that... but it wasn't there work they got thrown out for.

I didn't work the power side for Henkels... so I don't know what there reputation was.

I never saw them on Grid ( NIMO ) property before the ice storm and haven't seen them since... But they were working for some time during it.

I see Thyro (sp) all over up here now... and Northline, used to be Hawkeye was around.... Haven't seen them in a awhile. Isn't that Hawkeye a Canadian co.?

I always carried when I was on the road... don't see the big deal about that unless it wasn't registered.
We use to find the local gun range and bang off a few boxes...

Maybe they didn't think your system was worth anything more than the clunker crew>????

If the bid's for less and the big dogs go for it, I don't think it's really the contractors fault---whether they are good or not.

'Course I'm assuming they contract out to larger companies.......

Hawkeye had lineman from Ontario working over here in NY last year... that's why I asked.
Don't really care who Grid has for contractors.... Has no affect on me either way, But I have seen Harlan around also. Thyro is still around here working everyday.... Course we aint "upstate NY"... We're the "North Country"...

Harlans trucks looked like 80's vintage booms on early 2000 chasis's... kinda scary... they were around last summer during a wind storm...
Grid's Customer service has really tanked over the last 2 years... Seems to be a lot of resentment within the ranks>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The way I look at it they are Union and your fellow brothers will be working. It could be a lot worse and you could have a bunch of rats working instead of the H and M crews. So dont worry about what you hear and deal with it.

I've worked for Henkels several times, not bad, some outfits are better but you could do alot worse too. I worked for Henkels during the 98' ice storm and would like to know what Topgroove saw with his own eyes. Was it the fight, the fight and the knife, or the fight, knife and loaded gun? My guess is that he saw all of us loaded on the bus and heard a bunch of rumors. We were told that there was some ammunition found on the bus we took to and from our trucks everyday and that is why we were run off. I think that is was some politics between Henkels and Ni-Mo.

The had the Contract for Consumers Energy in the Flint area a couple of years ago. They had a peice of the work at Detroit Edison then too.

I guess they are about like anyone else... if they send a goofy GF out you get some bad results. We had a drunk from someplace... and a ratty assistant from Canada on our show up... some of the worst I'd ever dealt with.

Henkles had a bunch of guys in from Jamacia (the islands, not New York). HM was picking up their rooms and providing transportation for the imported help.

They had moved those guys from Penn to someplace down south, then up to Flint. They were not very good hands... and our Hall (LU 876) didnt seem too motivated to get those folks sent elsewhere. Henkels was determined to man the job with imported workers...The Client, Consumers Energy did not care and the final straw? Henkles laid off local hands ahead of the Jamacians.

They are here in the South and used to do just overhead but now do both. I know on storms there always seemed to be on Crinkle and Destroy crew sent home. But I know linemen that work for them up North that I really respect that knows their stuff and are very safe crews. Almost all of their equipment has been junk from my view and seeing them around here and there. I'm not sure I've ever seen a new H&M truck around here.

But as big as they are I'm not surprised you'll get different opinions as different area supervisors run different ships.
