COLUMBIA (WLTX) -- The South Carolina State Legislature has recognized South Carolina electric line workers for their contributions to the state.
During their regular sessions Tuesday, both the Senate and House took a time out to thank about 50 electric line workers representing the South Carolina Public Service Authority, municipal power systems, investor-owned electric providers and the state's electric cooperatives.
The line workers have a dangerous and difficult job, as they are on the front lines restoring power when it's lost during a thunderstorm.
Virgil Leaphart was one of the line workers honored. He's been a service man for Mid-Carolina Electric Co-op in Lexington County for 49 years.
He says it's the first time he's received recognition like this for his service.
