Will outside work ever be like it was, what I mean is empty books-standing calls and lots of time jobs. Im not looking for a job, Im just looking for opinions, informed opinions would be good but any are welcome.

Yes it will come back. Outside line work always has been and always will be peaks and valleys. Good times and bad times. There is over 3,000 miles and maybe more of transmission lines planned. Almost every Outside Local's books are full now, but that will change. Most utilities seem to be waiting to see if they can get stimulis money before they spend their own money.

The IBEW has recently formed a Task Force to address the needs of the IBEW, manpower, training, etc. for the line work that is anticipated.

Im well aware of the feast and famine in construction, but I have never seen it quite this slow. Utilities waiting on stimulus money is that a fact? I have thought the same thing but have no real information on it.

There is a huge transmission job gonna kick off in west Texas before the years end. Its gonna link some wind powered generation to the grid, via several different transmission lines. I beleive the wind generators are being built even as we speak. I'm purty sure most if not all of this will be in Houstons Local union 66,s
juristiction. I think they are in the process of negotiating wages, per diem etc. even as we speak. Most of the money is coming directly from stimulus funds. I spect a call to 66 could provide more insight.
