I'm wanting to give the Boss something special for this day. He's been a father for over 28 yrs now.

I want to give him something funny. It's very rare I give mushy stuff. But, I'd somehow like to combine it all.

What do you guys suggest? What are some of the most awesome Father's Day gifts you have ever received from your kids or your wife?

How can ya leave our girl hangin like that.

Does she have to tell ya if she is Dem. or Rep. before ya repond?

For me LA it was paternity test result's........

It is homemade card's , and hugs.

I get my father a carton of winston's and a bottle of jack.

I am not a big fan of hallmark holiday's, But mother's day is a good one.

Oh the children will show up, they always do. We will probably TRY to grill out for him, but he can't stand it and has to do it himself. Says we don't know what we are doing.

I thought about a hammock. But, I don't know where we are going to put it or hang it. And the BassProShop card is a given.

Oh, I just thought some of you might have some stories. Heck, I feel like the only story teller around here at times and now I'm repeating them! I'd just like to hear some stories from you guys. I'm fresh out or should be by now! :D

I'm not going to suggest what I suggested last year, even if he probably would have enjoyed it.

Does he have a favourite tipple? A bottle of whisky is often nice.

Alas, I no longer have a father. It's the reason I dropped off the forum for a while last year. My dad had an inoperable brain tumour and latterly took his own life. Things just went upside down for a bit.

Oh man. I'm so sorry about the loss of your father Clive. I sure miss mine. I can honestly say I saw my father EVERY Father's Day. When I was younger, I wrapped his father's day gift from the Sunday funnies. And sometimes before he had a chance to READ them! :D

No, the Boss doesn't drink whisky. Last year? Did I ask last year too???? LOL! I probably did. I forget what you posted. Was I to dress in some Cyndi Lauper outfit with a red wig and sing She Bop?

Honestly Clive, sometimes I don't get that Scottish humor. It's not your fault really, but I do TRY and understand it! :D

Umm, I think I might have suggested you surprise him with a hand-job. :o

British humour is something that you'd probably get to appreciate if you lived here. I have noticed that many Americans don't understand it and sometimes find it mortally offensive.

Tracy, try watching "Are You Being Served?" on the public television channel. That might get you headed in the right direction. Clive, do you think LA would like Ms. Slocum??:D

Just so long as you don't "COMPARE" LA to Mrs Slocombe.

I loved that show when I was a kid. I know it was full of smutty double entendre and stereotypes, but it mostly went over the head of a youngster.

Wendy Richard who played Miss Brahms passed away earlier this year and her popularity was enough to cause quite a bit of media coverage of her life.

Never heard of it. Might be because it was smutt. :D

You guys get too far into the gutter for me at times......

BigClive

Are you being served wasn't smutty. It was just mild double entendre (double meanings) Like references to Mrs Slocombes "*****" and other stuff that let the viewer put their own image together.

It's like British pantomime. A popular type of theatre show at Christmas that is based on various fairytales, but contains a mixture of humour that includes slapstick for the kids and double entendre for the adults. It works on two levels and everyone has a good time. Even if the kids don't get the double meanings they still seem to enjoy the fact their mums and dads are laughing.

I noticed that it ran in the early 80's. I guess I was the one in the gutter around that time.

Heh.

Actually, I've not watched that many Brit shows. I remember one guy being pretty funny, but I can't remember his name. I can remember his face though.

Yeah, you guessed it I've watched some Monty Python stuff in the day.

To me, Cleese was pretty darn funny.

You inspired me to have a trawl down memory lane on YouTube with such classic comedians as Les dawson, Morecome and Wise, Benny Hill, and Kenny Everett.

Looking at the video clips now I can't believe Kenny Everett got off with what he did on TV:-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KKKqoqEjFU&feature=related

As a kid it just came across as a zany program full of sketches and music, but some of the stuff was rather naughty. Particularly his dance troupe called Hot Gossip which basically danced provocatively in what would now be regarded as fetish wear.

OH NOOOOO! Now I look back at all the video's I suddenly realise why Benny Hill got his show banned!

Honestly, as a kid I didn't get the whole "jiggling" thing. To me it was just a funny chase scene.

I'm purchasing us a dag gum bed for Father's Day! The Boss has whinned about this long enough. We even went and looked at some today! He even laid down on some of those posturepedic beds.

I don't know. I keep thinking about those Sleep by Number beds myself.

So, what are you guys sleeping on?

Of course I'm laughing! I almost didn't post this. Actually I started to post it in Political and BS....except this is no BS....we WANT a good dag gum bed!! Hehehehehe..........Oh jeeze.

Dont get the memory foam..it is aweful! It seems nice for about an hour but by morning you will feel like you were tied up all night. What a waste of money! I havnt tried the sleep number. Good luck! Best fathers day for me was getting the lawn mowed! It wasnt much but for a 13 year old to think of it on his own was pretty nice, you know?

If you get a new bed LA..I agree stay away from the memory foam. Also make sure the frame sits up off the floor aways...makes a good storage spot for guns and fishin poles!...:D

LOL! We paid $200 for one of those top ones....you are right, what a waste of good money! My mother and I ended up cutting it up and she made a bench cushion, and I used the rest to make covers for my 3 porch swings. At least it didn't go completely wasted. :D

Yeah, for ANY teenager to think of something like that is always good! Sometimes even my 27 yr old son comes over to mow his father's grass for him and it's not even a special occassion. So, don't give up hope! :D

I recently got a new bed and one of the companies I work with has their workshops in a building that is shared with a bed distributor. I popped down and asked what he would suggest and he got me a king size firm orthopaedic bed.

It's great, but sometimes of a morning it's hard to get out of it just down to it's sheer size!

A nice big bed is definitely good.

Thanks Clive. Yeah, it's 'bout time for us to have a good nights sleep.

We use to have a king, but went to a queen for room space. It's big enough, I guess. Although he can be restless and swing an elbow. One night, many years ago, he swung that elbow and I ended up with a black eye! No lie! :D

I was getting ready for work the next morning and he asks, "What are you going to tell them at work dear?" I replied, "I'm gonna tell the truth." He says, "You can't do that! You can't tell them I hit you!" Hehehehe.........
Yeah, I had me a good ole shinner and went to work grinning about it. :D

After I had surgery a couple of months ago, he wouldn't even sleep with me for two days. He was so afraid he might hurt me. No, the couch doesn't sleep any better!

Oh boy, a push the numbers bed.....yipee. When you get pissed off you can dial that sucker up and launch his ass into the ceiling......he he he he.......sorry couldnt resist.

Can I pleeeeasse push the buttons.....trust me I swear!!!

Those motorized beds are hazardous when you get old. My mom was watching for me to get home from a storm one night, my grandmother somehow got her hospital bed all wacked out and was stuck between the foot board and bed frame.....dont ask she was italian. Imagine 3AM trying to pull your 90 year old grand mother all dead weight out of her mechanical bed. I had to call for help could not pull her out alone it was awful but funny.

Must admit scared me from the most harmless dial a firmness bed after seeing that.
