That was the subject title. This is probably an old story, but it was sent to me and no, not by a lineman, but knows my husband is.
I have killed a few in my day, but to find one where you least expect it, would give me a heartattack! Like the year a rat snake was wrapped around the Christmas tree!
The story said the snake was going after his food, a mouse. Neither the snake nor the mouse made it.

How do you know it is a lineman and not a narrowback?

I don't. :D
It's funny because an Aussie sent it to me and yet the story was about a lineman in Arizona. It came to me as a "lineman". I don't have the news story. Maybe someone from Arizona will let us know. :D

The snakes don't bother me it is the friggin spiders, in the south west I saw Tarantulas that must have been 6 inches across. Big hairy *******s with fangs you could see. It gives me the heebee jeebees just thinking about having one jump on you. At least with snakes you can wear tall boots, and the rattlers you can usually hear.

I've not killed as many as some, but I've killed some. I've a good many snake stories, but I'll just tell one for now.
My mother-in-law is really afraid of snakes. So terrified that she will almost faint at the sight of one. One evening, close to dusk, I hear her screaming my name outside. She yelled to bring a hoe that there was a snake in my backyard.
I fly out my back door, hoe in hand with my night gown on! I tell my kids to stand back. I see the snake, another rat snake, and say, "Mom, it's just a rat snake." She is shaking---her voice even shakes and says, "Best kind of snake there is, is a dead snake." How many times have I heard the Boss say that? :D
As I'm killing this ---little bitty snake, I'm sure I'm a sight doing it! And she is screaming for me to be careful...what with my long frock, when the snake gets stuck in the blade of the hoe and flies off and falls down behind me. Yeah, I felt the blasted thing on my shoulder. I wanted to scream, but my mother-in-law was doing enough of that. Then to the shock of us both, my 9 yr old son reaches down, picks up the beheaded snake by it's tail and says, "I'll bury it Mom. It's okay Nanny. I'll take care of this." LOL! Yeah, she was so shocked she couldn't speak. Me? I was laughing at the whole situation.
With that being said, the worse situation is having a snake chase you!

Nevermind. I take my last words back. THIS would be the worst situation for me! That and scorpions.

Don't care much for snakes either. But there is a picture close to this one out of Oklahoma and we have one of the guys in the shop that worked down there for awhile. He says that they found that alot there.

LOL! That's one heck of a huge chicken snake! Must be the heat or humidity down here, they don't grow that big here.
But, then again....you might have more rats there! Hehehehe.....
