I am thinking about lineman of the past. T-shirts hanging off the doors drying, funny t-shirts, tanned bodies, fun, joking around, teaching each other the ropes. I remember passing a Verizon guy setting a pole....no shirt....super hot....almost hit a parked car looking. The safety record was fine.
Now....at least 2 ugly ass long sleeve t-shirts FR style, FR pants look like something from the Sears Roebuck cheap section. Bucksqueeze, Hard hat, safety glasses side sheilds, vest, sleeves, gloves, dork rubber boots, welders mask, overalls, flash jackets, the monkey climbing strap looks like a kid's leash for the park, a puppet string. I am trying to figure out if the new outfit is Jason from Halloween, Pinocchio, the inmates who pick up garbage on the side of the highway or the kid from the XMAS story who wanted the red rider pellet gun so he could shoot his eye out. Lineman just do not look like a lineman anymore.
The voltage has not changed. Overloading the circuits and poles have. The safety issue is getting out of hand. I know it is the top priority but when you cant even walk with out strings, straps, giant clown boots and look more like a fireman than a lineman I am left thinking what is next. Safety is what you make it. I agree the clothes help. Ohio claims they are climbing in the rubber boots. What's next. A toxic waste outfit that is FR rated? Astronaut suit?
I watched the Nascar race today. The driver and pit crew had safety changes but can still walk and move like humans.
