I knew that they were part of first energy, I had heard that they laid off a bunch of there lineman in the penelec part of the company. Thanks for any info that you can give.

Do not go there unless you want to be treated like dirt. You can send me a PM for more info. The manager wears lace panties and was never a good lineman. He suffers from little mans syndrome and thinks he is a cowboy....umm cowgirl sorry. He is a legend in his own mind. He lies, will throw you under the bus and sit right in the front row with a shiney little brown nose.
Go to PSE&G or PP&L they pay much better. If you want to be treated half way decent do yourself a favor and run. They just had 3 more lineman quit three weeks ago because its a horrible place to work, they went to PSE&G.
Cross the bridge go to JCP&L they pay a lot more and it is still part of First Energy.........BIG DIFFERENCE A GOOD UNION SHOP with a backbone and will back you up.
2 FATALITIES IN LESS THAN ONE YEAR YOU DO THE MATH......IF YOU LOVE YOUR FAMILY STAY AWAY!!!
I honestly have nothing good to say about First Energy. If it's a smaller district away from either Erie, Altoona (Penelec) or Reading (Met-Ed) you may be better off. Stay out of Stroudburg!!!
They didn't lay off any lineman recently. I guess Penelec/GPU did back in the 70's/80's. They did get rid of their contractors, so maybe that's what you meant.
I'm not impressed, and I definitely don't plan on sticking around long term.
Most of the guys feel stuck because they don't want to start over from the beginning, give up pension, etc.
We've got senior guys leaving, and nobody qualified to fill their shoes let alone come close. It's too bad, I've been working with a guy who's retiring at the end of the week and he's walking away with TONS of knowledge. He'll get replaced by a leader who knows a fraction of what he does, and does even less. The tallent goes elsewhere, except for the few who are still stuck here and don't want to change. But in a big shop, they get spread out too far.

Stroudsburg and Easton have the same problem. I feel bad for the lineman there. Funny the Stroudsburg guys bid to Easton to work for a good boss only to have him moved and now stuck with the boss they all bid out to get away from. Shame the nice boss was a class act, the kind of person you want to give 110% for. Spirits were better and the work enviroment was much better. He is correct the senior lineman do feel stuck. Really no place to go. Who wants to start over after you already locked in your vacation and pension. Ride it out guys.......maybe you will get bought out. Washington Line JCP&L just had a bunch of great guys retire also FE last week. They could have stayed longer but who would want to the way they are treated. THEY CANT EVEN PAY LINEMAN TO TAKE THE JOBS. The ones who do come only stay long enough to take the signing bonus and leave.
Stroudburg is down to 3 leaders, 3 first class, and 3 apprentices.
Easton can't keep a forman. One guy just submitted his notice, and another is talking about going back to NJ.
It's a totally different environment now that the "good boss" got demoted. He's happier though, I still see him occasionally. I wouldn't want that job, he was too nice of a guy, but one I liked working with.

Which foreman is leaving JM or SC. I know the one who is going back to NJ. He is a great person, very smart, not the kind of person who would take kindly to being sucker punched repeatedly. I would much rather commute to NJ and be treated like a human. He should go back before his 3 month trial is up. The manager is just sucking up until he cant go back then he will pull the little man syndrome act on him. Kind of like the Wizzard of Oz. Whip back the curtain and here is this little old fart with no power. JM would be nuts to subject himself to a wanna be much longer. I cant wait until the smokeless gun is tossed in the pond:mad:.
SC put in his notice on Monday, and SH made the call yesterday. Both are really good guys. I'm actually glad to see them go, they deserve to be treated much better than they are.
I think JM is going to stick it out a while longer until he can retire. He thought he was going to get laid off the last time around. I think they'd be in a lot of trouble if he left. He's a good guy, but also in a bad spot.
The smokeless gun was actually smoking one the other day when he came out to visit. They'll keep him around as long as it's owned by FE though! He's perfect for that job.
May 1st will be interesting

I forgot about the contract I hope they make out OK. My bet is they wont get what NJ did because FE will claim recession as a bargaining chip. I am so happy SH is going back. I know he will dread the ride but trust me the friends and loyalty will make that ride much easier now. NJ still has that strong arm effect on FE. SC just stayed long enough so he did not have to pay back the signing bonus. He was a smart guy should do very well. I hope JM stays healthy enough to hang in there and the stress does not get the best of him. Your right about the smokeless gun, FE loves arrogant people like that, doesn't matter that no one wants to work for him. He needs someone to blame because he can not step up to the plate and tell them to take a reality check.......Helloooo we are short handed. He cant speak up he is a chicken and subservient, they would kick him to the curb if he wasn't a yes man. He was only sucking up to SH hoping he would stay. After his 3 month trial ran out then the true cowgirl would show up and make SH miserable too.

If you go for the interview it won't be hard for you to pick out the wanna be Cowboy. Very arrogant and in love with himself. Very cocky air and Mr. Nice guy promise you the world and then give you a spanish neck tie to make himself look good. He will get all blown out like a peacock and ask dumb questions and then crosses his legs like a girl and thinks he is superior. He would push his own mother in front of the bus to get a cookie. Things will not change there anytime soon. There are only two foreman who have actually ever had a pair of hooks on out of both shops. The other ones are golf buddies very nice guys but I would not want to trust them with my life on the line. FE is now run by suits who really have no clue what the real world of line work is all about. You think they really care about the fatalities......NO......Timmy's job was posted 3 days later. It is all about the CAIDI minutes. I can't think about it I am getting mad. Please check out PP&L or PSE&G. They have a better safety rating.

I,ll let you know if I ever hear back from them.
We're currently without a contract, but continuing to work of the existing one.
As far as I've heard they aren't hiring, but that's just what I heard.
They kick the contractors out a while back. We had some non-union in during a storm (we found out later) in Feb.
We removed our personal stuff as of Thursday. We knows if they'll lock us out or we'll go on strike. I hope we do actually.
Once my moving contract is up, I probably wont be here long. Too much crap and it's not worth it.
Penelec was better than Met-Ed

Worked for Penelec for 16 years and loved it till First Energy (FIFO) *7^%^&# Idiots From Ohio, bought everybody up. Not a good company to work for. They want you all the time with no compensation and treat the Lineman bad! I got out and love it now. Feel bad for my fellow Linemen who really had to stay.

The union knew that there were non union lineman working that storm. It was mentioned by the same person who told me to the union guys. He told the lineman asap. I had passed the crews did not realize they were non union.
Its as if no one cares anymore.
Strike I hate to say didnt help solve anything. Did make you feel good though. Course there was no kick ass storm for 3 1/2 months. We come back to work and bam big storm.
Dont you feel sorry for the company and want to give up your raise while TA took his giant bonus.
I loved the Jersey Shore......I loved going to the beach during ice storms it was amazing as long as you did not have to try to walk anywhere.
I got a text message today from my friend who works for Penelec (180) asking if we were walking.
He said they've been in meetings preparing for us to strike.
He's been hearing things about 459 and 777 being day to day, etc.
180's contract is up next year, so if we end up taking a one year deal it'll set things up really good for all of PA to be on the same schedule.
I know things haven't been that great back there either.
