Da on da off!

Many years ago I was working the night shift in a somewhat tough part of town, so they would pair two of us together. We got a part lights out call and when we pulled up it was a three story wood frame building where the floors were seperated into flats. The customer on the third floor was claiming to be out of power and back then we would replace fuses and bill them. My partner went in first and I followed, I didn't want to interview the customer I just wanted to check for blown fuses so I headed toward the basement. Half way down the stairs I found the fuse distribution box. By this time my partner was talking to the first floor tenant.
my partner asked are your lights out?
the first floor guy said it wasn't him.
He shouted up the stairs and said the light man was here is yo lites out?
The person upstairs said, , ,what?
I found the blown fuse by then and had a new one screwing in. . .
About this time the thrid floor guy said day out!
I bottomed out the fuse
I could hear the first floor guy say day out?, but in the backgroung I heard the top floor guy say da on!
I couldn't resist, I let off on the fuse again
Now Mr. first floor was saying day on!
But you guessed it the third floor guy yells down Day off!
Now the first floor is yelling up there saying day on day off?
My partner was about to burst when after about three cycles of this yelling which way is it. . . I shouted up and said I found it I think it's all good, and we left
Another job well done. . . :D
