View Full Version : What do Men really Want?

The month of February is right around the corner. And many men will flock to the stores and buy candy, cards, flowers, etc. I've never been one to take part in Valentine's Day. Sure there were a few times I up and picked up a card, fixed lasagna (the Boss's favorite dish), and yes bought a nightie of some sort. What a waste of money and material! :D
When you have been married forever and you have done almost all the things that you can do (for special occassions), what else is there?
I think the Boss has sent me three flower arrangements in our marriage. And one was to my mother (my favorite one) with a card that read, "Thank you for this day 40 yrs ago." I think that was the last one. The other two was one, on my birthday when I was around 26 yrs old and the other one was on our 20th anniversary. I cried when I received all of them! LOL! He says, "I don't send them to make you cry! Why the hell are you crying for woman?" Heh.
So, neither of us are all that mooshie gooshie. And we certainly don't express our feelings just because it is Valentines. I think we do so many other things that are fun and special during the year, that we really don't pay attention to Valentine's Day.
There sure is alot of hoopla on this day though. Another advertized/commercialized holiday for businesses to make mega bucks...IMOH.
Yes, I'm a romantic at heart. What woman isn't? But, I "know" what women want----or most of them anyway. But, I'd like to know what a man really wants. What does a man really want? Here's your chance! List it! :D

A new socket set! Do you ever watch RedGreen, LA? There's an episode about "what do women really want?", and from that episode, I learned women want two things: world peace, and a new VCR. Although, in these days, I guess women probably want a new DVD player now.:D
Can't speak for the rest , Sorry but I really do think different. What I want you cant buy. But if you insist on spending money a 55 telecaster would be nice. :D

I agree with Koga....money can't buy what we want (I am sure "the boss" would agree).
I would only add that judging from your other posts, LA, maybe you should buy 2 55 telecasters. Then you and the boss could go fishing together and remember what that other thing money can't buy is between you two.;)
BTW my wife and I both enjoy reading your posts.:)

So far, I have a socket set and a 55 telecaster. :D
I really wasn't asking for gifts to buy the Boss, although he knows he can buy anything (almost anything) he wants.
About gifts......my husband and I don't buy gifts to each other and when we do, it's purchasing something for the house. We laid new flooring back in the spring and purchased new furniture. Then I bought material for curtains and paint to paint the livingroom/foyer. We pretty much thought that was enough gifts for each other last year. AND the Boss went fishing more last year-----and I decorated/painted while he was gone! :D
Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of non-gifting. But, maybe I ought to surprise him with a brand new rod and reel for Valentine's Day............just for the heck of it! :D
Ummm...........maybe a red one..........

I was typing my response as you were finishing yours Boomer! :D I've decided maybe I will splurge on the ole coot this year and surprise him with a gift that he will enjoy and use! As I said, we really don't pay close attention to holidays and such, but I'm thinking I'll do something different and surprise him for a change.
Aaawww.........thanks for the compliment Boomer, to you and your lovely wife. :)

Maybe LA's hubby wants that too. He's not very young, so a quick hand job, cake and a beer should suffice.
The cakes for eating by the way. Unless of course he wants you to sit on it, in which case you'd better get two 'cos it's always a dissappointment when someone sits on a cake you planned to eat.
Have I gone too far yet?

Ummm.....I got lost on the cake Clive.
I was going to tell the young hammerknocker (Iron) that unless I'm mistaken, most men still think along those lines, no matter their age.
I was told ----just yesterday, that you can feel young even in your 60s. If that's the case, maybe the Boss is still young! :D

If all else fails....just google! And look..........it was #2 on the list! :p
I imagine most women that read this has already figured it out. Especially those that have been happily married to the same guy for many years.
http://www.aspirenow.com/smooth_10_00_what_men_want.htm
In a nutshell:
1. Men want a fun and exciting (female) companion.
2. Men want great sex (consistent, frequent, and passionate lovemaking score high with men).
3. Men want to share meals with their woman companion (especially when she cooks for him).
4. Men want you to support them in their work and boost their confidence.
5. Men want you to look great, keep in shape, and express confidence about your body.
6. Men want you to listen to them and treat them with respect.
7. Men need private time, to unwind, to engage in sports and hobbies, and to spend time with other men.

LOL! I googled it AFTER Georgie's response. With that amount of money the boss would take a bassman. A bass man's boat, that is. :D
Definitely too light for an anchor! Heh. Here are some pics Boomer.

But the boat will depreciate . I have bought and sold a few guitars and always made a nice profit. As well as get to own and play some fine ones.
They usually hold or go up, even while the stock and economy head for the dumps.

Although he might appreciate the vintage guitar and like how it plays, he won't use it. Just the other day I said, "If we add on the back porch for your tv/caveman room, can I get a grand piano?" And his response was, "A piano? Why do we need a piano for?" http://www.avowners.com/forum/smileys/zzz1003.gif

Hmmmm. Maybe you should try a smaller cake next time. :D
A quick search on YouTube for cake sitting will reveal the terrible cake wastage that goes on. :p
But the search also led into the terrible territory of "cake farting". As demonstrated on this site that I can only describe as cake-based porn.
It's one of these videos you show people just to see their reaction.

Such an utter waste of a good cake.

OMG...........that's.........well, that's just crazy. And no, I didn't look at it!
Good grief.
woman. Which may or may not be happening. Well see. The 55 tele will just have to be one of those dreams that probably won't happen. But ya never know ! I've run into guitars in the strangest places and alot of folks seem to have them in the closets and under the bed. Mine has got me through some hard times. And its wonderful therapy. Why not the piano, if you enjoy playing as much as I do guitar. Then go for it.

I don't play, but I wish I did....I really enjoy listening to the blues. Those are some very nice looking guitars, LA. I had no idea you were talking about instruments (what can I say....I hear caster and my red-neck says "fishin'"). LOL

Kog, that's for sure......did you by any chance see the 63 Gibson Explorer that made the cover of Guitar Magazine a while back? Was in a closet for years, guy digs it out, takes it to work and shows it to a guy I know from another site. He says he'll take $250 for it. The guy tells him it's worth more, tells him he wouldnt feel right at $250 and advises him to contact Gruhn.
The guy thanks him and contacts Gruhn, Gruhn says the axe is worth between $60,000 and $80,000. The guy doesnt play so he says, what the eff, He'll let go up for auction. In the mean time some research is done on the thing and it's determined its a 62, not 63 and is one of a handfull with Gibson factory installed Bigsby. It goes up for auction, and it fetches $640,000....that aint a typo!!
Moral of the story, dont throw out or otherwise sell any guitars you find in a closet till ya get it appraised......!
a couple of cases where I told em up front to contact other folks because I could not give em what it was worth. And its always fun to see those old beauties and get a chance to play em a little. Man do you remember when you could get an old tele , or Les Paul out of a pawn shop for around 150.
With a kick ass little tube amp for around 200. If I only had any idea what they would bring today !!!!!!!!!!

Tell me about it........wish I had one of those old amps now....!
Man would I love to get my hands on a fender twin from back in the day......
Ive got a Fender Super Six Reverb I play through when we practice or play some where. I have a Leslie Cabinet I hook up with it through an AB box. I run a Blues Tube preamp on the Leslie Only pedal I use is a Boss comp\ sustain . Here at the house I play through a Peavey Classic, which actually sounds pretty **** good.Great blues growl when cranked.
