Another "My Life with the Boss" story. I think most of you can relate to this story. ;-)
I forgot what it's like. I should have remembered.....
As some of you know, I have Fridays off in the summer. I mentioned to the Boss that if he wanted to take some Fridays off this summer, I'd go fishing with him.
Since I hadn't fished with him in a while, he had asked me Monday, "I'm taking Friday off, do you want to go fishing with me?" I told him sure. I feel good that he has asked me for he usually takes one of his friends.
He told me, "I expect you to be ready to go at 5:30am okay. No laggin' around now." No biggie. I go to bed early (before him) and I'm up at 4:30am, had my coffee, dressed and he is still in bed.
He finally gets up and we are watching the morning news and he says, "Are you ready? We need to hit the road. Are you coming?" I ignore his *****ing and say, "Ready when you are."
I'm prepared for anything. I have my bag full of magazines, a book, towels, etc. He starts on that. "Why must you pack a bag? You always have to carry more stuff." I ask, "If there is no room, I'll leave it, okay?" He says, "No, that's not the point." I want to ask, "Well what is the **** point?" BUT I don't. http://vbb.evyl.org/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
I even help him load up. I always do. This time I seemed to do it all right for he couldn't find a compliant.....because I know he would if he did! :D
We are finally on the road and we pull in to the gas station. I have the debit card all out and I ask him, "Do we need anything?" He gets out without a word. I'm thinking we don't. He comes back in the truck to pull it around again to get the truck filled too. He says, "Are you not getting any water or ice for this trip?" I didn't say that I had already asked if we needed anything. I get out and go in and get two big waters and order a bag of ice. The lady said they only had large bags. I know better than to go without ice.
Sure enough, he starts, "Why did you only get two bottles of water? And why did you get a large bag of ice?" I mentioned the ice situation and since he wasn't ready, I went back in for 4 more small bottles of water.
I get in the truck and already I wished to be home. I was so looking forward to our time together, us fishing, and it's gone. The whole deal is dead for me.
After 15 minutes of being on the road he asks....with a sigh, "What's wrong now?" What?? "WHAT'S WRONG NOW?" Did he just ask me that??? Shouldn't that have been my words?
I try to not fuel this situation because for some reason he has been wanting a fight since he got up out of bed this morning. I said, "I'd say nothing, but that would be lie. So, I'm going to say this:
I'm not going to fuss with you today. If you want to fight, you will be doing it alone. I'm just here for the ride now."
He starts grinning and says, "I figured that out when you beat me out of bed and was dressed before me."
He kills me.
I help him unload the boat and we get out on the water good. He hands me a rod and reel. And after a few sorryass casts, I'm not getting it. I can't get the hang of it. I keep trying and it isn't casting well. Or since I don't fish that much, I'm not doing it well. I don't ask for help. I know better. And I want him to be able to fish without helping me.
I can't ask for another rod. His rods/reels are his stuff. He gave me this one, so this one is the one I have to use. I know he is watching me, but I don't look up.
After 20 minutes, he asks, "What's wrong?" I don't look up but say, "I guess I've forgotten how to fish right with these."
"Do you want me to help----"
"NO. I'll keep working with it, you keep fishing."
After another few worthless tries and fixing the lines tight again, I give up. This is not my idea of relaxing while fishing. I set the rod down and get out my bag. I didn't expect to even get in my bag for at least 2 hours and here I am in my bag getting out a magazine and we haven't been in the water 45 minutes yet. But, I say nothing. I'm disappointed but I want him to enjoy his day fishing.
He says, "Already quit, eh? That didn't last long."
I look up and he is grinning again. Remember, I'm not happy. He knows I'm not. "Yeah, I couldn't get it to work. But, it's okay. You keep fishing dear."
I watch him catch a few small bass and throw them back. He keeps getting out different rods with lures he has fixed in advance. About another hour and a half passes and he hasn't had many bites or a catch... and I say, "Use my rod."
"I don't want to fish with that worm." he says.
"How about the rod? Do you like it?"
"I don't want to fish with it." He says.
"Why? Why don't you want to fish with it?"
"It's yours." He says.
Now I'm wondering what THAT means.
"So, you never really use this rod and reel?"
Moment of truth................
"No. That one is yours." He says with a grin.
I should have pushed him in the water!!! :D
