I thought since I wrote this about a woman that it could go here. I trust LA will move it if it needs to go elsewhere.

The Brat

Aren’t you the Brat,
she said with a twinkle in her eye
I was bouncing on her knee,
After a good cry

Careful you brat,
She said smiling in play
as I drove away with my date,
in my MGA

You’re a handsome brat,
She said with pride in her eyes
My Uniform crisp
It was a tearful goodbye

You know he’s a brat.
She said to my bride
Make him behave
If he won’t, skin his hide

You’re just like that brat,
She said to our child
Pointing to me,
As they giggled and smiled

Your are my brat,
She said with pride
Her gray hair in a tangle
Her arms open wide

You are still a brat,
She said, eyes fading fast
A life full of memories
With that said, she passed

Daddy, I’m not a brat!
She said with a pout
I said oh yes you are
Of that there’s no doubt!

In loving memory of my Mother Laura Ella Dalton, Who died in complications from Breast Cancer, 1994

That's a wonderful poem RWD. As I told ya, it makes me grin and cry all at the same time.

There's nothing like a mother's love. And a good mother that tells it like it is! :D

That is beautiful, you made me have a big cry. I'm going to blame the fact that I'm pregnant and very emotional at the moment! Kelli:)

Kelli and LA, Mom's last words to me were "your still a brat" She really did die within a few hours of those words. I thank you for your kind words. It's the first poem I ever finished and it needs a bit of trim yet. I got the idea from a publisher I do some side work for as they are going to do a Mothers day edition. I'm submitting it to the Magazine. The publisher said much the same as you and LA. She did say it needed some punctuation though and ... well that was one thing Mom never taught me. (She was a school teacher and I actually had her as a teacher one year)

Now I have to write one for Dad who died in what was called "An old west shootout" in Costa Rica a few years ago.

Thanks again.

That was very moving to me.

I lost my father a while back to some unexpected crap.

Your wonderful tribute flooded me with memories about my dad.

Very touching.

Thank You.

I edited it slightly and turned it in for a local contest. Honerable mention in "Trellis" Magazine.

Thanks for your comments. If I write about Dad I'll have to start a new Thread.
