I've owned goldens for close to 40 years. A wise choice! Let your kids name him. My sister in law just got a female pup and named it Bailey because she's the color of Bailey Irish Cream! She also has a male that is 112 lbs. He's named MAX!

The name of the best bird dog to ever live. My old friend who I had to put down Nov. of 2004 at the old age of 14. He was a yellow Lab who loved to hunt. Boy it's hard to hunt birds these day's without my old friend. His AKC Name was Our Mellow Yellow Fellow, Mel for short. Speed Training your retriever and water Dog are good books to train from. Lots of fun. Good luck:D

I had a Wire haired Pointing Griffon. Most magnificant Phesant dog I ever saw or worked with.
His name was "Mike".
Don't go all "exotic" on the name.....

But if you did the advantages would include,
- will readilly wear a Yowie suit AKA Burkha if Female
- would be great gundog only if you use an AK-47
- handy to wear explosive vests to flush out birds
- will be very faithfull as one it doen't want to get stoned to death for playing around but will accordingly wait to get the 70 or so hot bitches when it gets to heaven for carrying the above allocated task.
- must be taught right the first time as it will only be able recognise one set of rules and cannot be trainned or reasoned with after that point.
- great in the sand
Disadvantages could include,
- may devolop an irrational hatred of all other breeds of dog
- useless as a pig dog
- can't eat pork products
- may constantly deficate at local Synogogs and irrationally attack patrons.
- you may be attacked for enjoying your favourite beverage.
- may fight with nieghbouring dogs to establish its own fundamentalist yard out side its own allocated yard.
- may recruit others to brainwash and carry out any hazardous tasks.
- will start howling at dusk dawn while facing east and other random times

At the local mosque they used to call the masses by chanting from the top of their big dome every morning.
That is until every morning someone sniped the chanter with an air rifle from the neighbouring block of flats. Then they installed a speaker system. :D

Depending on your age this may or may not hit your fancy.
Dwayne Eddy had a song titled "Rebel Rouser" , which is the name we gave our Labrador Retriever.
I still think it's cool. Especially because the breeder's name was Rouse.
Just a thought.

Kinda different but, what about naming him Money? ($) You're getting him from money made on the ice storm. Maybe something else that struck you on the trip? I'd try to link it together with the trip maybe. Not sure of your kids ages but mine wanted to call the stupid, (wife and kids love 'em), cats, Gray cat and Black cat. Just shook my head. I'll stick with my dog, Sheba.

My Grandmother has been looking after my Uncles dog, a large jet black staffie terrier called "Lucifer" my Gran had a small stroke about six months ago and was hospitalised. When she was found sneaking out one night they asked her what she thought she was doing and when she replied "going to feed Lucifer" you can imagine what they thought well it took my Aunties a while to explain and the nurses were in stitches. Someone will call the little white truck one day as when the dog gets out my gran walks up and down the street calling out "Lucifer come here" don't ask me what my uncle was thinking when he named it.

If you don't like "Money", then how about "Cash"?:D

I can tell from that picture that your boy and Roscoe (or whatever it may be) are gonna be friends a long time. I have a Golden, also. My son and his dog are inseperable. More like brothers.
A word of advice: try to keep his weight under control. Goldens are notorius for having bad hips. If they carry extra weight, they usually have problems. That's not my opinion, I'm repeating what the vet told me. They are great dogs, and great with kids. Best of luck with him.
