I knew the eagle had a lifting body but i didn't know it was that good! I heard we sent a couple of them over for the Israel air force to try and the pilots could just say holy ****. They want the Raptor too and me thinks they will get it.

It takes a hell of a pilot to not eject, remain calm and bring it under control. Regardless of the fact that he didn't know the wing was missing, that is some bit of flying.

I'd guess the last thing you want to do when you've just smashed a chunk off a very expensive toy is finish it off completely by ejecting and crashing it too. :D

I think it was more of a act of desperation. He approached the runway at twice the recommended air speed and beacuse of that high speed the wreck kept flying. The high air speed was a problem in itself but some problems are better than others! Notice the people saying what a great aircraft any other type probbly would have spun out of control and he would have ejected with all the problems that can cause. Id like to know who or what caused the collision in the first place? Seems that was not mentioned in the video or did i miss it?

If I heard it correctly, they were practicing combat manuevers. Another pilot was below him flying upside down. The pilot who pulled this off fired a missle and the bottom pilot rolled up and they collided. He didn't know he was right there. Apparently neither one could see the other. The one pilot ejected because his plane blew apart, but this dude held it together. The Israeli's are tough SOB's. I agree it was probably desperation, but when you collide mid air and you are rolling out of control and losing altitude, it's tough to remain calm. You can practice in a simulater all you want, but @14,000 feet, it's way different. I'm not a pilot, so I'm speculating. If I'm wrong, someone correct me.

Thanks a lot Dave interesting. Someone I know was pushed out of formation and he got a bad mark against his record even though he did nothing wrong but avoid a accident. The other guy got fired. I would think its important to know were everyone else is. Your point about having courage and all that is right but what other choice did he have. He kept his wits about him about all you could ask in that situation. Surpises me he wasen't aware that the wing was missing sooner. Good ending to a bad situation. It reminds me of some of the B17s seen all shot to hell coming back from German bombing run. Some of those looked like swiss cheese, half the tail missing and wings all shot up. Those boys don't get enough credit for what they did. With all the modern counter measures we have to day seems much safer to be a fighter or bomber pilot. When you look at the record what was it Israel 109 Egypt 0. Where was Allah when you need him?

Allah is a guerilla warfare specialist. Allah only helps enemies in the shadows. He's not gonna tarnish his reputation (ie:get his ass kicked) with a confrontation in which the participants are known.;)
