I worked for CW. At one time it had the worst safety record in the industry second to Dead Simpson. The equipment was junk, and they forgot Lincoln freed the slaves. They had poor leadership and management. They expected you to do whatever you were told whether it was safe or not. Then in 1999 the employees bought the compnay and turned it around, safety wise, equipment wise, and leadership. They have paid holidays, paid vacation, employee stock, and 401k with a small matching amount. If you live in NC they do a lot of work in NC, VA, SC, MD, PA, WV, KY, DE. They perdeiem on all transmission work and Distro depending on where you live from the jobsite. ( 70 miles or more ). But, if you want to work in the NC/VA area there are some union contractors - Dillard-Smith, Richardson & Whalen, Black&Beach that I know of. Check with the local IBEW for further info. Your best bet is to go union. Hope this helps
thanks how do i get a hold of them numbers or something

I worked for Charlie Wright 25 yrs ago in Northern VA. At that time they had an excellent safety record. Oh, they had a reckless fellow or two but that wasn't the norm. I remember being issued a safety manual(quite thorough), rubber overshoes, rubber gaff guards. A safety supervisor came around regularly and replaced gloves sleeves, rubber overshoes, line hose, etc. Vehicle were old and in poor repair. I was never asked to do anything unsafe. In fact the only two times I had safety concerns, the GF backed me up.
At that time they had a profit sharing plan. One week vac for every five yrs service to a max of three weeks. I had heard that the employees bought the company.
Still, I'd say hook up with a utility. While Charlie ran a decent outfit, the utilities have been a better option for my family.
Worked with a great bunch of misfits. Good men every one.
