OH I just have to send that to my local member of parliment! How true every time there is an accident at work or randomly its down for a test, police here have just started random drug testing on drivers coupled with breath testing should clean up some of the fools on the roads...

yes we have to do this too but I make shure I havent had a drink for 24hrs. they give me all the free bottles of water that they have. Usually it gives time to read the entire newpaper popular mec ect. Figure if they make this manditory might as well enjoy it.

I hate the d.o.t. because of them, and the federal gmnt, we who hold the "national" cdl must submit to "random" piss testing.

Fair enough YOU may be the honest one who doesn't take anything illegal or turn up to work half pissed. But what about the guy working on the pole who hides behind these rights and is on a cocktail of drugs, what about the guy working next to him to feed his family and someone under the influence causes an accident, what about his rights and the employers duty of care? Just because the pi$$ test doesn't catch many people out there are no figures on how many people it deters or weeds out. You can worry about your rights being trampled at least you wouldn't have to worry about the condition of the guy next to you why worry you get paid to go for a leak and check out the nurses....

I have worked with drugheads before, the only ones I worried about were rock monsters and drunks who inbibed at work.

"course, you may be encountering the new breed, speedfreaks, or meth heads.

I have seen a few, but mainly my experience has been with drunks and potheads, with a few snorters.

If a guy is messing up at work, you confront him and deal with it.

'far as piss testing, I still believe what you do on your own time is your business.

I will say that I have seen some suprising results to the test, some guys I never dreamed have failed.

Here, failure is instant dismissal, no passing go, no collecting 200 dollars.

'far as "random", thats a load 'o crap too.

I guess what my view is smoke pot if you want, drink booze, but use your judgement and never do it at work.

If I am working with a guy who is high, I know it, and will not allow him to harm anyone.

Seen too many people go down on drugs and let down by others that have become addicts. They will steal , lie and cheat tell you what you want to hear had friends fatally overdose when I was younger and they all only ever "did it occasionally" and that doesn't include others that are quite likely still in and out of jail. As for what you do in your own time is your own business, thats fine but the effects of drugs are often felt for days and its fact that the harder the drug the quicker it clears out of your system. I don't wish to have any doubts about the guy working next to me even if he does himself in I still got live with that. With the amount of drugs in society these days coupled with a hazardous occupation employees should be tested to see if drugs are keeping them off their game as you aint going to get too many second chances. If you don't like pi$$ tests the mine sites over here will give you a pi$$ test and Random Breath Test in the morning but thats the price you pay for the employer paying you the big $$$ here.(Its common for a mine site electrician to get $130K PA-base) Drugs and linework don't mix.....
