Working away the other day and groundies were told "those transformer taps look abit short at one end" they're alright they protested so we land the transformer and look too short at one end! Take them off ask for 2 longer ones. The reply "Say Please" Mine "What for? fixing your f#@k up!" Alright thats fixed hook up the LV transformer harness "Short at BOTH ends" GRRRRRRRR:mad:
Simple things are far easier fixed on the ground anyone else had one of THOSE days?

Were they helpers, apes or underclass men. If any of them were, asap a heart to heart meeting would be held. NOT the politicly correct, touchy feely type. And I dont think it would ever happen again.

Now what really gets my goat is, I get a job, spend an hour and a half getting all the material loaded, drive an hour out to the job in traffic get the whole crew there and realize the EA that drew the job up ...........
A) Never actually went out to the job site
B) didnt talk to the customer to find out what was really needed
C) doesn't have a clue about how to build something, he only knows how to punch in units on a computer. whether it has anything to do with the actuall job or not.

So now I don't have a **** thing we need to do the job needed and its gonna waste a half a day going back to the yard to get what it.

Or : at 30 min till knock off time (usually on Fri.) ya get a call from the boss, "Look we have one that fell through the cracks and has a commit date of today." What that really means is the EA has ****ed up and lost it or promised somebody something he shouldnt have and has his ass in a crack and wants you to bail him out again. Along with that is the boss that will call and tell you to bail the EAs ass out. Instead of explaining to em "a **** up on your part dont constitute an emergency on my part" like I do when they call me direct. I can only think of one or two like that, most of have a set

So thats what usually gets me . But hey I get paid by the hour and if they really want it now ,.... Hurt Me:D

In response to what Koga has said i would like to add that often in his utility a Committ date is met at the cost of overtime yet it benefits no one. Not the customer who is not ready, Not the utility since the meter will not turn until the customer is ready and often even though he is compensated for it , Not the lineman ( often costs him in other ways) I do beleive that got my goat more than any other thing especially when at that same utility a customer was waiting for a legetimate trouble call that was scheduled down the road due to an unknowledgeble telephone answerer working in a phone center somewhere in the middle of nowhere. And while we busted our ass to make a useless committ date a customer that needed attention suffered damages needlessly. Yep bleve Koga has the same pet peeve I did, working yer butt off to acheive nothing when your efforts could have provided a benefit elsewhere.

I guess what gets me is the quality of the young folks we get in our industry nowadays.

Ther used to be eager guys breathing down your neck waiting for the opertunity to become a lineman.

No more. Now we seem to get prima donnas who want everything handed to them. (Not always but often enough to be disturbing)

Plus I have the stupid habbit of placing my expectations on others based upon my ability and work ethic. I am frequently dissipointed, sometimes suprised.

I have seen an ape wrestle a service bail (wedge clamp) until I couldnt stand it anymore. I have seen guys climb up and down the pole 'cause they forgot to do something on the primary side.

I got frustrated with some of the new guys, but now as a t-man, thats over with..........

.....untill I hear a 30 year man on a loop on the radio totally lost and expecting the dispatcher to shoot it from their desk.....

here we go again........

I'm not totally positive, but I think the last thing to " get my goat" was a sasquatch .... there was goat fur and innards, and all these huge footprints......and the smell still lingered in the air..... or it might have been our new grunt....hmmm

Well that doesn't sound like a pleasant surprise I take it that it was at your property? Would have made your stand on your neck stand finding that at your place!

The guys who dressed that pole were somewhat new I was helping out as most of their crew was on a course. The pole was a non-standard design which no one has dressed before and some engineer had to sign off on. When the utility supplies the parcell for the job you get a wrapped pallet from their stores delivered to your depot. (Of course everything is always there and correct:rolleyes: ) When the gear is supplies the cable we use for the harnesses and taps is supplied only problem is that there is only one length they supply and its generally too short for a transformer harness but them to change this is like pulling teeth ah well at least we still got back to the yard before knock off!

Swamp , LT , you got it right, you "dodged" it once and you learned what you did wrong.

The "new" attitude sucks. ASK??? I was never asked sh--. I was a couple years before I realized my name wasn't dumbass. Now you have to ask, say things in a nice way so you don't hurt feelings. BULLS---.

Goat? Guys that have done 1 facet of this industry and think they are lineman.

Apes that dont want it as bad as I did and dont try to "get it".

I miss the oldtimers that abused me. I didn't understand then but I do now.

what gets my goat is the girls at school, and how other guys treat them.

so theres a few girls at school i kinda like. they're nice lookin and have for the most part, nice personalities as well.

but what gets me the most is the way the other guys at school treat them, well 1 guy in particular. there is this 1 guy in 2 of my classes. i don't know if he likes them or not, but he seem to like to get attention from them by slapping them, pushing them around, feeling their breast and takin their purses from them and going threw them. and apparently the girls don't care, because they start slaping him (in a playful way) and still they hang out with him and talk to him and actually like him?

That is what pisses me off, is i am one of the few nice guys, but i don't get the time of day from the girls i like because i'm too different. I know where i'm going in life..............I know how to treat girls as they deserve............. I don't go out and try to cause trouble................when i talk to them i look them in the eye, not at their chest.............i don't look at them lustfully, YET this guy slaps them around and and does stuff he shouldn't and they give him all their attention and like him instead of me. hes not the only one, but the one i notice that does it the most.

THAT is what gets my "goat".

Like usual, I agree with Swamp. I learned that we are who we are a long time ago Hemmingray. The ladies that want men that don't respect them are never going to be worth going after. If they don't respect themselves, they won't respect you. Ask out the lady that you think would never go out with you. Noone else is asking her out and she wants a date. Even if she says no, get used to it. You'll need the training learning about a woman saying no.

**** Hemi wait till you get married and have some kids. You'll be so confused most of the time You won't know if your a$$hole is bored or punched. Also, I had no idea I had so many coworkers on this site. All of the situations described sound just like my company.

Different system to when I was at school you did that to the girls and if the teacher didn't kick your ass all the way to the principals office you could be sure that one of the bigger guys would beat you mercilessly and then you were a total outcast, and usually all of the above...

i think i've learned bout the "women saying no" part duck hunter:D all my life all i've ever gotten is ALL "NO"s and ONE "mabey" 9which usually means no) except for with one girl. but that girl live closer to swampy now than me. things kinda fell apart at the end of the school year last year, and basically it sucks. lets see, the count is up to 25 for all the "no"s i've gotten for a date to prom which is in like 5 days, so i'm quite sure i know about the "No" part by now.

but on the other hand, last saturday was one of the best nights ever. so were going to my cousins wedding (i know sound like a BAD:D Story) anyhow, the maid of honor walks in as i thing to myself "****, whos is that fine looking girl, i hope i'm not related" lol. so at the reception i was wanting my parents to leave the room, cuz i wanted to dance with this girl who i had found out was a good friend of the bride, she was from germany and was a foreign exchange student in 2001. so finally my parents leave the room, and i ask this girl to dance. lol. and she did, and we both had a really good time. i was the only guy she danced with, other than the best man in the wedding party dance, cuz all the little girls were all over "miss germany" running around and such. so me an her talked bout a lot of stuff as we danced for like 45 min or so, and then my dad comes and says its 12am, time to go.
that was my first time danceing with a girl lol, as i never went to middle or high school dances, just because i knew i wasn't wanted there. so lol. i'm glad i got to dance with such a beautiful girl lol. she had such a heavey accent, that pretty much no one but me could understand her. and thats probably a good thing, seeing as the nature of some of the questions she asked me. lol. so its like "Yaaaa, i FINALLY get to have a GOOD time for once." and amazingly no toes got stepped on lol.

I'd not go back to HS for NOTHING in this world........not as a student anyway! Oh, I had a nice time, but times are too fast and easy for me today! No way.

My son didn't date that much either Brian and he still doesn't do a whole lot. I think his standards are too high. However, that's a good thing. Because I want him to get it right the first time and hopefully he will. He likes girls but he hasn't brought one home yet and the one that he did, he told me upfront it wasn't nothing serious.

He is too busy working and getting ahead. Right now, I think that is a good goal to have. If she shows up, then he can face the music then.

Good luck to you Brian. But, forget about those girls! :D Yeah, yeah, yeah........easier said than done! But, you are a whole lot better off!!! :D

#1. Slack spans that look like a jump rope.

#2. System primary neutral incorporated into the service triplex, quad, or duplex. Have seen it many times. Not good.

#3. J. Lineman that don't know basic knots. I've seen many.

#4. Neutrals on a slack span that go inline straight to the other deadend pole, and have the spool coming off the back so that the wire rubs on the down guy. Dumb.

#5. Tracey, Tracy.

#6. A sun whitened gut left on a phase or down guy which are in close proximity to one another. To dumb to make a better arrangement, I guess.

#7. Sling ropes with just tape on the ends to stop it from unraveling. Don't know how to make a crown knot or just put a knot in it.

#8. Services piled together on a pole and some of the neutrals placed on other neutrals so you have to be **** careful while transferring, so you don't open somebodies neutral.

#9. A single line fuse with single phase laterals feeding 2 different directions.

#10. Sling ropes made up that are two **** short for anything.

#11. All metal secondary service wedge grips used for slack spanning primary wire onto insulators.

I can not agree with you more. Sling ropes with tape. We go through alot of sling ropes here, alot of pole change outs. We tie up the phone and cable TV's to the new pole why leave a good rope for the cable guy.:D

ok, as to what dbrown was saying. theres some thing around here that would get your goat.

slackspans like jumpropes like dbrown said, BUT someones put an automatic in the dang thing.

when they jack the service so tight it bends the weatherhead mast.

when the service is so slack you could touch it standing in the bed of a pickup.

people that uses Splitbolts meant for Cu to connect the service (Al) to the house main.

-Guts on open wire secondary in contact with a new tx instead of quartermounting it.

-Slack spans with the curley q's left in.

-any ******* who torques a hot line clamp on with a 2 foot screwdriver (now take it off with a shotgun, dumbass)

-sloppy service leads going into multitaps on the front of a tx.
(just a little tape makes it so pretty)

-A dropout framed so close to the top of the pot you look like a deep sea fisherman standing 30' from the pole to get the barrell out with your extendo.(these fuses do blow from time to time, *******)

-brainiacs who bring the tx stinger to the cutout within 2" of the arrestor ground. (bird killa)

-****birds who paint over loop numbers on padmounts.

-Dumbass landscapers who cant read the warnings on padmout gear and box in ug tx's and sw cabinets with hedges.
