You guys get to rant about politics. Now it's my turn.

It's election day in Scotland. This is the closest we've been to the SNP (Scottish Nationalist Party) being elected. They have the primary objective of making Scotland independent from England.

The English are desperately trying to prevent this by scaremongering that Scotland is heavily subsidised by England. If that's the case wouldn't they just want to dump us?

It's a very important night tonight... I might even have a wee drink.

The Scottish National Party has broken Labour's eight-year dominance of the Scottish Parliament.

The SNP has emerged from the election with 47 seats, one more than its rival. The Tories ended up with 17, the Lib Dems with 16 and the Greens two.

A minimum of 65 MSPs will be needed to form a majority administration.

From BBC News

Is this a good thing, Clive?? Does this mean the Stewarts will be the Royal Family once again? Is any of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s kin still around? Is this revenge for Culloden Moor????

Oh Flower of Scotland!!

O Flower of Scotland
When will we see your like again
That fought and died for
Your wee bit hill and glen
And stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again

The hills are bare now
And autumn leaves lie thick and still
O'er land that is lost now
Which those so dearly held
And stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again

Those days are passed now
And in the past they must remain
But we can still rise now
And be the nation again
That stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again

It's not all gone very well. The whole aura of defective vote counting and the sheer number of "spoiled" voting papers is causing a dragged out mess. A bit like the "bush" election.

Not really sure what's happening at the moment. For some reason they made the simple task of placing a vote much more complicated than it should have been.

I'll check the papers tomorrow to see if they've got any new revelations.

Tramp you seem to be pretty well informed, however we have to look further back than 1745 as unfortunately Culloden and Bonnie Price Charlie was'nt so much a Nationalist battle as a religious one. It was (The Stewarts) fighting to return the BRITISH throne to Catholic power. We have to go back to Mel Gibsons' (sorry Will Wallaces') days to see a fight for SCOTTISH independence. But Hey maybe we're getting there at last!

The song, The Flower of Scotland, is about The Bruce hammering the army of Edward II, son of Edward I - The Hammer of the Scots, at Bannockburn near Stirling in 1314.

Wallace was executed by the English around 9 years before Bannockburn. This plaque hangs at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in Smithfield, in London.

Scotland and England are united by a shared crown (1603) and Parliament (Act of Union 1707). The present Royalty are not of the Stewart line which descended from The Bruce through his daughter. They are the German House of Hanover put on the throne in 1714 because they were Protestant thus deposing the Stewarts (Catholic) and eliminating the legacy and blood line of The Bruce. The House of Windsor came into being in 1917, when the name was adopted as the British Royal Family's official name by a proclamation of King George V, replacing the historic name of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. It remains the family name of the current Royal Family. It was a little inconvenient and embarrassing to the powers of the UK and the British Commonwealth of Nations to have a German name for its Royalty when they were engaged in a costly war with the Germans.

The USA will remember the House of Hanover in King George I, German George, and the War of Independence.

Presently the platform of the SNP includes the Royalty after independence, much the same as other Commonwealth countries like Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

I lived and worked in Scotland at one time. Possibly one of my mistakes in life was to move from there.

I didn't see anything worth reading on the headlines.

Who cares. I'm off to Australia for a holiday and to check the place out. Maybe they'll have sorted it out when I get back.

Thanks for the history Lonesome. I promised my grandmother years ago I would make it there. I still plan on it. My mother did make it back in '92 with another one of her sisters.

I'm a decendent from the clan MacMillian. From what I understand there is still a castle standing over there from the first MacMillian. My mother said that it's the most beautiful places on earth, but that the pictures do not do it justice.

A couple of my aunts (mother's sisters) are wanting to go. And I plan to go with them. I plan on keeping my promise to my grandmother. It was her grandmother that was a MacMillian.

I love history and I love hearing and learning about my roots. I've been grounded by both sides, my father's family and by my mother's family. But, my mother's side of the family are the keepers of records.

When you dig....sometimes you come up with the most interesting characters. Sometimes rogues, those with military backgrounds all the way back to the Revolutionary War, family secrets, love stories, etc....it goes on.

Clive, if I should head up there, maybe we could meet up buddy. It would be a hoot. And one of my aunts can take you toe to toe with your ..............ummm.........we call it baloney (bullshit talk), but you guys have another word, what is it? Belarmy? Anyway, if you could understand her accent/words she could stay up with you! In other words, I'm not as sharpe as she is, but I get it honest. ;)

Any time any of you are over you should drop me a line.

Belarmy? Sounds like an Irish term.

The election has gone all "Bush" on us.

The SNP have a majority of one but a Labour candidate who lost by one vote wants a recount. Sound familiar? Bit of rigging going on perhaps?

Just getting ready to head to Oz. No I'm not taking my skirt 'cos I don't have one. They're only for tourists. :p

Just finished working on a chunky bit of old switchgear to make it look active for a film. You clunk the handles over and the indicator lights go on and the meter needles all swing up, but it's fake. There's a battery pack inside so it can be screwed to a wall and will perform on cue when they film the scene.

I know one thing don't f^#k with the Singapore police they really don't take any sh!t. Whipping with the rotan and a stint in jail is a common punishment there for alot of "minor" infractions as we would see it. Including carrying firecrackers,chewing-gum, durians on the subway(MRT) they are a stinky horrible smelling fruit, and spitting in public. Should get some pictures of their warning signs some are rather amusing....
