If we all take a look at were this industry has taken us, these companies will run us straight under ground. Our benifits are worse, o.t. % are higher we drive greater lengths to get to work, yearly increases are less all tho inflations up, our curcuits are old an run down, many substations are to small for the urban growth in the last 100 years an yet they still think we can do it with less man. Look I understand that my job has some o.t. with it but does it have to be every time the wind blows or there is a chance of a storm. Face it if we had the proper man power we would beable to do alittle maintenence then everything mite stay up in the air. Here is my year /year after year. Jan there is basically no overtime other than call out or being forced for weather. Why? So the company can close the books from the year before. Then Feb - June its balls out schedueld, call out, forced you name its coming. The big rush to get evrything done before summer. Their thinking is to cut down the overtime in the summer so the guy's will answer the phone for call out. Usually that doesn't work the guys allready have had thier fill. Ho but you must maintain your %. Allright that doesn't work now your all forced an right thru the weekend for that matter. Let's move on. School starts every year at the same time we all know when. Lots of new school things for the kids to do even after school no kidding. Well hear comes some more bad weather, and schedueld overtime to finish up the projects that got put off all summer. Damm man I'm working my butt off, good thing for that picture of my family on my sun viser and that local handy man. Shoot I forgot holidays are coming more forcing yet to come man thats great. Ho yea an the big push to get everything done before Dec. the companies got to close out the books. Well as normal we've worked another year an a half in one year agian, man that hurts. And don't forget no medical benifits when you retire but thanks you guys did a great job. An this goes on year after year an the company still wants to drop our man power. Thats really just the short version.

Bad for you company hands, but it sure opens up lots of opportunities for us tramps! Especially areas like Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis - anytime a dark cloud drifts by, there's storm work to go on. They try to cobble things back together as fast as they can, and cut all the extra help loose. As long as the checks keep coming and they can justify it to the stockholders, that's a great way to earn money for a good vacation!

It doesnt matter how much we make. The companys are running our asses into the ground because we dont have enough Journeyman to share the calls with. Here in the Northwest we had a lot of lineman that made 150 K and up last year and Im sure 07 will be the same.
We need more Lineman not more money

150K!! Jesus, how much do ya make an hr?? We have some close to that but not quite there, and they LIVE here!. F*uck that! Enough is enough, to the body, to the point where exhaustion is in question. We still have ta drive home.
I have trouble checkin the kids homework sometimes!! (at 1am) Hire some more people you stupid F*uckers!!! While you sit in your mansion, wathcin the weather channel and waiting for the, I dunno, nightime, to come, REALIZE that others actually have a life and children that need help with whatever or a T-ball game or Gymnastics!!!! Give us a fookin break!! Their answer is always the same...contractors. And we always bow down?? As long as we get a pay check, we're all talk , no action, and they know this. $hit, I dunno what I'm tryin to say. I'm drinkin and am pissed ot the moment. :(

I agree, they need more linnies but time in a half obviously isn't enough of a deterent. If your being forced, you might as well make double. In chicago more than afew linnies made over 200,000.00 .

Work a bit, skive a bit, work a bit, skive a bit.... It's the way to live. :D
I'm currently getting to skive for a few weeks. It's nice to lie in a bit longer in the morning without the alarm nagging me out of bed. Work will probably hunt me down shortly or I'll go and look for it when I need a cash boost. Suits me and suits the companies I work for too.

200K Those guys must live at work! and look for and early retirement. We have alot of manpower issues the utility and contractors are bringing heaps of guys from all over New Zealand,South Africa and the Phillipines are the main ones with a few from the UK but the system is that old and run down that there is more and more work for more and more linesman.
