I heard that TXU went union on 12-19-06.Anybody else heard anything? Local is 66 i think. This news should have been screamed from the rooftops!!!They are also being investigated by the Texas PUC for some of the practices they are trying to inact,as I understand it.This should be interesting because these boys play the way they want to,not to interested in hiring or keeping qualified help.Well I guess all is well as long as the CEO is payed well and the Ivory tower looks good.
Good Luck to the guys who are going through this,Stick together,Be Safe and remember to take care of each other. This could get ugly if corporate thinks they can split you up over the small things.Stay focused and look at the big picture,Better things are coming.
Take care,Merry Christmas

I dont know how this works so I am asking the question. Lets say a company's employees have voted to go union, like TXU. What happens if the company says "no way" we are not entertaining the idea of a union. What happens then, is the company required to deal with the union, and does this answer change depending if you are in a "right to work" state.

That is the law. Negotiations on the contract will start soon. In Texas a right to work state, my job will be union no matter if I am or not. Even if I don’t join my wages and benefits will be handled by the union. Not all right to work state laws are the same. One of the matters still to get settled is when the NEW company IES starts up will they recognize the new union or make us vote again. I do not believe we will have a contract before the new company starts up. Still more twists and turns in this road. Oh well it gives us something to talk about over coffee. :)

Iowa is a right to work state but the new gov, is going to propose that if you work at a union shop that you will have to pay union dues. makes sense to me that if you get the benies that the union provides that you shuold have to help PAY for it.

Well I agree to a point with that. If I hire into an all ready established union shop yes I should join. I knew from the very start what I was getting into. But lets say I worked in this job for 28 years then it goes union without my vote, and I end up making less then I did as non union. Should I be forced to pay for bad representation. When I didn't want it to begin with. I say it should be my choice and if they are doing a good job I will gladly pay them for there work.

Sorry not familiar with the company or its problems but are you sure being union is the answer- if your in a right to work state why does the company have to listen to the union? Why was the vote so close? The employer not the Union pays for all your benefits including training.

Nope I'm one of the ones who is not sure the union is the answer, but it was voted in now all I can do is wait and see if they can deliver. The company has to negiotiate with the union , being a right to work state in Texas just means I dont have to join but my job is still union.

The company "has to listen" because a majority of the workers voted to organize and be represented by a Union who now becomes the sole bargaining agent for the workers. That is a matter of Federal law.
