Im curious to hear what the normal amount of hours that everyone works when they are on storm. I was always taught work your 16 hours unless you get caught up in something late and get your 8 hours rest, then start again. I have been working in different places lately and it seems wherever I go the crews are trying to work 20 or more hours before bedding up and than some are even shorting their rest time to stay on double time. Any replies are greatly appreciated.

If you can stay on double time after resting than thats not bad but I am on storm to make money. I would like to bed down for 6 and stay on double rather than sleep 8 to go back on time and a half. I can understand where you are coming from because us having CDL's we should be getting atleast 8 hours sleep. I believe that is where that all came from.

Work 16 hours in a calendar day, then you go home for 8 hrs. If you should get more than 16 hours, then you go home for 8, if the time off runs into your normal starting time then you start getting your pay for the day.

We work 16 on, and 8 off. Unless the storm is at home then the first day you work as long as you can stand it, usually 20+. and then back to 16 & 8 till the end. It is funny, go out of town and the do the best they can to keep us off double time, work a storm around the house and the could care less.

Out here in Calif. we pull 32 hour shifts all the time. Then go home for 7 1/2 hours and come back on double time.We try to do it as many times as the light company will let us.This last News Years day we started a snow storm on edison property ,wire down in the mountians, stayed on DT for nine days!Caught a few hours of shut eye here and there in the trucks, but it was rough!!! most of the storm work in the northeast is all double time right from the start, so it eliminates the hassle of keeping track of your rest time. some companies even pay you to sleep. once your on double you never go back to straight time. for storm related work that is-

Here at LU 104 it is double from the time they call you. Our work hours are usually based on our customer. Most of the time it is 18 work, 6 sleep. We do not get paid sleep time. The last storm we worked in NJ last week the customer had us on16/8. Once released, if the customer does not put us up for 6hrs rest, we stay on double time untill we get back to our show-up or in the case of long distasnt travel until our first rest time, From then until you back to your show-up it is time and half. If the customer puts you up after they release you, then it is time&half all they way back,
