Just got interviewed at progress energy for Lineman Apprentice SL in Clearwater.
Can anyone tell me what it's like to work for them. I have over two years as an apprentice in Jersey so I kinda know what to expect. Any info would really help.
I already have a copy of their contract (doesn't look that bad) but how's there union. Our union up north sucks. I also hear that they have contracters on the property. How does that affect the union and it's members?

That particular area has had it's share of problems. There is lots of maintenance along the west coast. Most of PE's Florida growth is in central Florida.

As for the union.....they have had their own share of issues I guess over the last few years... I believe the BM for years is gone and they are trying to learn to deal with a new company since Progress Energy was formed.

The company as a whole ain't bad to work for, but there is tons of work and not too many people to do it. It varies on what yard you are in as to the attitude and treatment of the employees. I went from one region to another and it was like changing companies!!! I went for good to bad. Then, I left.

David Price is the man at 1412. I believe he is out of Apopka or Jamestown.

It's hot here too!!! I mean stinking, humid, hot. You will hate the summers!
Good luck

what kind of statement is that ? its only as good as you members make it, i on the other hand think its pretty good, why dont you go to work for a contractor and maybe get with some good lineman and learn something and see what your made of at the same time?

rat boy, if you work for jcr your not in the union, except when you had to be to work on the rail job to make some real money. if you kept your ticket and still work for the rats, you know what you are. as for the union sucking,if it wasn't for the union, the reeds would be paying you and all the other boys about $3.35 an hour, and you couldn't do anything about it. so when you look at your check, remember to thank the union that you get good money, insurance, overtime, weekends, and ANY OTHER benifits you have. oh and by the way, your welcome,SON. :D

son, your the one that said it,not me. you said the union up north sucks. are you in it?yes or no? if not, shut up. if you are and work for jcr, that says a lot. and if you do have a ticket,do you vote,go to meetings, run for office, help train the apes,do AHYTHING to further the good of the brotherhood. if not, before you offer an opinion of something you were around for a few moments, get your shit together. i've seen your posts before, kid.you crossed the line, you can't say you didn't,so don't try. but since you seem to think you know all in your 5 years of time, remember this, the union was here before all of us,and it will be here when all of us are gone,so use it to it's fullest while you can, because there's no second act to this one, scooter. :cool:and by the by,you woundn't still be in the union because the reeds gave notice to get out of their contract because nitwits like me wanted ALL of the money that they owed us,you moron.

ok ,ratso, maybe i do go a little nuttso sometimes, but some of your posts seem ok,too,so i would like to say i'm sorry. i'll bite it. i do get worked up over the union and jcr thing because a couple of my bro's were working for jcr in weymouth,ma. and jcr never paid into the hall's funds or for their retirement or anything, even tho they had a signed agreement. i just get my dander up once in a while because the union has given me a great live and fantasic peaple to work with and to call friends and family. so if i overstepped my mouth, sorry. not that i agree with you working for jcr,you should still work out of the hall, but for any personal afront that i may have made against you, brother. i apologize,. the one,the only, the true, the original, edski 104 :o
